Compare the exact model’s socket coverage, drive sizes, ratchets, storage and warranty—not its piece count or brand name alone. The examples here are not matched kits: DEWALT’s DWMT81534 listing describes 205 pieces and three drive sizes, while CRAFTSMAN’s CMMT45104 page describes a 104-piece SAE and metric set with two drive sizes. Neither set can be declared the better value or more durable from those specifications alone.
Start with the exact model, not the brand
Both brands sell multiple mechanics-tool sets, and contents can vary substantially by model. Treat the DEWALT DWMT81534 and CRAFTSMAN CMMT45104 as two examples to compare—not as a matched head-to-head pair. Before buying, check the model number on the product page and confirm that the listing describes the same kit being sold by the retailer.
Piece count is a poor shortcut: a total can include accessories as well as sockets, and does not tell you whether the set contains the sizes and types your work requires. Check the actual contents, including SAE and metric coverage, and count shallow and deep sockets separately.
Compare the working contents
Socket ranges and drive sizes
DEWALT’s DWMT81534 listing describes standard and deep sockets across 1/4-, 3/8-, and 1/2-inch drive sizes, along with ratchets in those sizes. CRAFTSMAN’s CMMT45104 page lists SAE and metric sockets and 1/4- and 3/8-inch drives. A 1/2-inch drive can be useful for larger fasteners or jobs that call for a larger tool; it may add little if you already own one. Choose based on the fasteners you expect to handle, not the assumption that more drives are always better.

Point style
CRAFTSMAN specifies six-point sockets for the CMMT45104. Its separate CMMT45061 listing describes a 61-piece, 3/8-inch-drive, 12-point set. These are distinct product configurations, so verify the point style on the exact model you are considering and make sure it suits your fasteners and intended work.
Ratchet access and accessories
DEWALT’s DWMT81534 listing describes a 72-tooth ratchet with a 5-degree arc swing. CRAFTSMAN’s CMMT45104 page also specifies 72-tooth ratchets and a 5-degree swing, and describes low-profile heads as up to 25% thinner than the named CMMT81747 and CMMT81748 comparison models. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Check the full contents list for accessories you will actually use; a larger kit total alone does not establish that it contains a more useful selection.

Check storage and warranty by component
Case or toolbox
DEWALT describes the DWMT81534 case as having metal latches. CRAFTSMAN packs the CMMT45104 in a portable metal toolbox with ball-bearing drawers. They are different storage formats: consider whether you need a case that travels easily or a toolbox suited to your workspace, and check that the tools have assigned places that work for you.
Warranty scope
The cited DEWALT DWMT81534 listing states a one-year limited warranty. CRAFTSMAN’s CMMT45104 page states a full lifetime warranty for tools and a one-year warranty for the metal toolbox. Its page says: “All tools meet or exceed asme specifications and are backed by the CRAFTSMAN® full lifetime warranty.” Compare the terms for the exact model and distinguish tool coverage from storage-box coverage; warranty duration alone does not establish how easy a claim will be or whether replacements will be available.

Once you have identified kits with the coverage you need, compare their current transaction prices and included contents at the retailers you are considering. A cheaper kit with different socket ranges, fewer drive sizes or a different case is not necessarily a like-for-like alternative.
