Apply through Anthropic’s Verification Portal, with one application per organization. You provide organization and applicant details, a description of your security work, and an attestation to the security controls required for the tier you want. Anthropic says it aims to send a decision or a request for more information within seven business days, and it assesses each application for the highest tier the information supports. Pick your tier by the scope of work you are authorized to do: Defense Access for defensive work, Red Team Access for authorized offensive testing, and Specialized Access for safety-critical systems. The details below reflect Anthropic’s October 6, 2026 announcement and its Help Center as of October 7, 2026. Terms change, so check the live Cyber Verification Program page before you submit.
Which access tier fits your work
Anthropic’s Cyber Verification Program (CVP) gives qualifying security professionals access beyond what generally available models allow. Generally available models stay usable for code review, patching known issues, finding vulnerabilities in source code you own, and triaging security alerts. CVP matters when your work runs into safeguards on more sensitive tasks.

How to decide
- Defending or analyzing? If you defend systems, respond to incidents, reverse engineer malware or validate vulnerabilities, Defense Access covers you.
- Attacking with permission? If you run authorized penetration tests or red-team engagements, you need Red Team Access, and you must apply as an organization.
- Is the target safety-critical? Only Specialized Access addresses testing safety systems that could affect lives or disrupt markets. Most applicants will not qualify.
Because Anthropic assesses for the highest tier your information supports, describe your scope accurately. Overstating it will not help, and a clear scope with matching control attestations is what a reviewer needs.
Step-by-step application
- Open Anthropic’s Verification Portal and sign in with an Anthropic account. For first-party Anthropic access, choose Programs, open Cyber Verification Program, then select Apply.
- Confirm who applies. Anthropic wants one application per organization. Individual users inside an organization should not apply separately; an organization admin can designate seats.
- Prepare identity details for the organization and the applicant, a description of the security work, and an attestation to the controls for your requested tier. Anthropic verifies applicants and may ask for proof of those controls.
- If you will use a cloud platform, link the account first. The Help Center describes linking AWS account IDs, Google Cloud project IDs, or Azure subscription and tenant IDs. Microsoft Foundry applicants should deploy a Claude model before applying.
- Submit, then watch for a decision or a request for more information. Anthropic’s Help Center targets seven business days. The announcement gives faster expectations for Defense Access and a few weeks for Red Team review. These are estimates, not guarantees.
- After approval, finish provisioning (see below).
Independent researchers and individuals
Anthropic directs independent researchers, maintainers and bug bounty hunters to apply individually. The Help Center is inconsistent on what tier an individual can get: its application section says only Tier C is available to individuals, while its FAQ says individuals on paid plans can apply for Defense Access. Check the live portal or ask Anthropic before assuming either.

On Console/API, an approved grant may need to be enabled for eligible workspaces. Only organization admins or owners can manage grants, and some programs have seat caps. If access fails after approval, check that the user is in a qualifying workspace and that the grant is assigned to it. Cloud platforms have their own linking and access steps.
Data retention
Anthropic says data retention is required for CVP monitoring. The announcement says eligible organizations will be able to keep data in infrastructure they control once EFS becomes available. The Help Center also describes a zero-data-retention exception for organizations already approved for zero data retention on Fable or Mythos. Both points are time-sensitive, so confirm the current terms with your legal or compliance team before applying.

What Anthropic has published about results
- Project Glasswing partners reported 129,000 or more verified software vulnerabilities between April and July 2026, according to Anthropic. Anthropic says this is likely an undercount because it relies on reports from only a subset of partners.
- Anthropic’s open-source scanning efforts added 5,500 verified vulnerabilities between April and October 2026.
- Anthropic says more than 33,000 of the verified vulnerabilities were rated critical or high severity.
- In Anthropic’s own evaluation of Claude Opus 5.5 on CyScenarioBench (five attempts on each of 10 challenges per tier), 46 of 50 trials were blocked at some point in Defense Access. In Red Team Access, 34 of 50 tasks were completed with no blocks, matching the model’s 67.6% success rate with no safeguards. This is Anthropic’s evaluation, not an independent result.
The practical reading: Defense Access is still guarded for offensive-style interaction, and Red Team Access is the tier that removes those blocks for authorized testing.
