What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no single best ARC Raiders preset. The best settings are the ones that fit the limit of your own PC. Start at your monitor’s native resolution. If you need more frames, turn on the upscaler at Quality. Then use the in-game performance overlay to find your bottleneck and change one setting at a time. This article gives you that method and a few official numbers to compare against. It does not give you a benchmarked preset.
What performance should you aim for?
Embark Studios’ PC requirements page (last updated 1 October 2025) lists three target tiers:
| Tier | Graphics setting | Resolution | Target frame rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Low | 1080p | 60 fps |
| Recommended | High | 1440p | 60 fps |
| Top tier | Epic, with resolution scaling | 1440p | 90 fps |
These are targets, not guarantees. Results vary with the GPU, map, driver and how busy a fight is. Use them to decide what is realistic for your hardware.
For a real-world data point, PC Gamer’s March 2026 GPU testing used Epic settings at 1440p with Quality upscaling. It measured the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB at 127 average fps, 91 fps 1% lows and 7.38 GB average VRAM use. That is one publication’s result on its own test system. Don’t treat it as a prediction for your PC.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Step-by-step calibration
- Set native resolution. Run the game at your display’s native resolution first. Pick a frame-rate goal your system can realistically sustain, using the tiers above.
- Enable an upscaler if you need it. The community-maintained settings reference lists DLSS, FSR 3 and XeSS as hardware-dependent options. It also separates upscaling from native-resolution anti-aliasing. Start at Quality and drop lower only if the overlay shows you are GPU-limited.
- Open the detailed performance overlay. Note whether the limit is the GPU, CPU – Render or CPU – Game.
- Change one setting, then retest. Run the same route each time, such as the same spawn and path. A third-party calibration guide dated 29 July 2026 (U7BUY) recommends changing the setting tied to the detected limit rather than lowering everything. That guide says it is not a local hardware benchmark, so treat it as a workflow suggestion.
- Judge smoothness, not just averages. Watch frame-time consistency and 1% lows. Look at distant silhouettes, fences and foliage edges for softness or shimmer.
Reading the bottleneck
| Overlay shows | What it suggests | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| GPU limit | The graphics card is the constraint. | Lower the upscaler quality step, or reduce costly lighting options such as RTX Global Illumination. |
| CPU – Render | The CPU is struggling to prepare frames for the GPU. | Lower the settings that add draw or scene complexity. Raising resolution or upscaler quality will not help here. |
| CPU – Game | Game logic is the constraint. | Graphics changes may help little. Retest after each change to confirm. |
The mapping above follows the calibration guide’s principle of matching the change to the detected limit. The specific setting-to-limit pairings are common-sense starting points. Confirm each one with your own before-and-after runs.
Settings that matter most
Resolution and upscaling
A lower internal render resolution improves GPU performance but reduces image detail. Which methods and quality steps you see depends on your hardware. Quality mode costs the least clarity, so use it first.

Frame generation and Reflex
Frame generation inserts generated frames to make motion look smoother. It does not replace a responsive base frame rate. If the game feels sluggish before you turn it on, it will not feel better after. The settings reference says availability depends on hardware. It also says NVIDIA frame generation automatically enables Reflex, a latency-reduction option, and disables VSync. Check those linked states in your current client, because menus and behaviour can change with patches.
RTX Global Illumination
The settings reference separates Static lighting from the Dynamic ray-traced modes, and says higher Dynamic modes carry a major GPU cost. If you are GPU-limited, switching to Static is a sensible thing to test. No controlled benchmark here proves it is the best choice for every system.

Foliage and visibility
PC Gamer reported that foliage renders differently depending on graphics settings, which can change how well things are concealed or seen. Visibility and concealment can therefore shift together. Lowering foliage quality is not a guaranteed way to spot every opponent, and nothing established shows any single setting gives a competitive edge. Test it yourself. Stand in vegetated areas and check whether distant shapes become easier or harder to read, then decide if the change is worth the visual cost.
How to judge each change
- Consistency: average fps and 1% lows.
- Image quality: sharpness and temporal artifacts such as shimmer.
- Visibility: whether targets and cover read more clearly or less.
- Responsiveness: how input feels, especially with frame generation.
- Bottleneck: whether the overlay’s limiting component actually changed.
Keep a change only if it improves something you care about without hurting another item on this list.

When settings are not enough
If you still can’t reach your target after calibrating, the hardware is the limit. Compare your GPU with Embark’s tiers before upgrading. Check current prices and independent reviews first. The PC Gamer figures above are a test result, not a buying recommendation.
What to verify yourself
Menu names, available upscalers, driver support and game behaviour can change with patches. The settings reference is community-maintained, so check it against what your client shows.
