Its input is not a standard analog jack: you need the separate Sonos Line-In Adapter and an appropriate audio cable. A turntable without a built-in phono preamp may also need an external preamp.

These serve different purposes: Era 100 is itself a speaker, while Echo Input adds Alexa to compatible external audio equipment. Sonos also lists Era 100 SL, Era 300, Five, Amp, and Port as products with line-in, but they are not interchangeable choices; some are system components rather than standalone smart speakers. Era 100 and Era 300 require a Sonos adapter for line-in.
Using a wired source with the Sonos Era 100
What you need
- A Sonos Line-In Adapter for Era 100. Sonos describes it as a USB-C-to-3.5 mm accessory.
- An audio cable suited to the source: 3.5 mm, or RCA-to-3.5 mm if the source has RCA outputs.
- A preamp if your turntable does not have a built-in phono preamp.
Sonos’s support instructions identify CD players and turntables with built-in phono preamps as example sources. The adapter and audio cable are separate requirements; the adapter alone does not provide a cable from every source.
Connect the source
- Connect the Sonos Line-In Adapter to the Era 100’s USB-C port.
- Connect the source to the adapter with a 3.5 mm cable or an RCA-to-3.5 mm cable, according to the source’s output.
- For a turntable, confirm that it has a built-in phono preamp. If not, add a suitable external preamp between the turntable and speaker.
Sonos states that Era 100 works with Amazon Alexa and Sonos Voice Control. Voice-service availability depends on country and language. Check Sonos’s Era 100 product guide for compatibility information and Sonos’s line-in instructions for connection details.

Adding Alexa to speakers you already own
Amazon’s Echo Input support page describes connecting the device to an external speaker using either a 3.5 mm audio cable or Bluetooth. This can suit a powered speaker or stereo you want to keep using, rather than replacing it with a smart speaker. Other Sonos line-in products: different roles
Sonos lists Era 100 SL, Era 300, Five, Amp, and Port among its line-in products. Era 100 and Era 300 need a Sonos adapter; adapter requirements can differ across products. Amp and Port are system components, not direct substitutes for a single all-in-one smart speaker. Choose among them based on the audio system you are building, and confirm the exact product’s input and accessory requirements in its current documentation. See Sonos’s list of products with line-in.

Check the exact Echo Studio generation
Do not assume every Echo speaker has the same wired input. Technology-review coverage reports that the 2025 Echo Studio dropped the earlier model’s optical/3.5 mm combo input. Because this is a generation-specific claim reported by reviewers, verify the exact model’s official specifications before buying it for wired input; the two generations should not be treated as equivalent. What to decide before you buy
- Do you need a speaker or an Alexa add-on? Choose Era 100 for a standalone smart speaker; consider Echo Input only if you already have suitable external audio equipment and accept its uncertain new-product availability.
- What output does your source have? Match it to the required cable, and include the Era 100 adapter in the connection plan.
- Is the source a turntable? Check for a built-in phono preamp before connecting it.
- Do you rely on Alexa? Confirm that Alexa is available for your country and language on the Sonos product you are considering.
