There is no single switch for this. Personalized game features sit in different places: your Nintendo Account, your PlayStation account, Fortnite’s in-game settings, and Windows or your Microsoft account. Each one controls a different slice of your data. This guide covers the published opt-out route for each platform, what each setting does and doesn’t stop, and how to handle a child’s account. Menu labels change, so confirm them on your own device. These paths come from the platforms’ own support documentation, not from hands-on testing.
First, decide what you want to stop
“Personalization” covers several different things, and platforms give each its own control:
- Recommendations: suggested games, items or content based on what you play or buy.
- Offers and promotions: tailored deals and messages.
- Targeted advertising: ads chosen using your activity, sometimes on third-party apps and sites.
- Analytics and service improvement: usage data used to improve products. This is often a separate choice from advertising and recommendations.
- Data needed to run the service: account, purchase and gameplay processing that no opt-out toggle removes.
Turning off one of these does not necessarily turn off the others. Read what each toggle says before you change it.

Nintendo Account
Nintendo Support’s article “How to Manage Nintendo Account Data Usage Settings” sends you to Privacy and Other Settings, then Data Usage – Opt-Out Preferences. It describes the choice as whether to allow Nintendo “to use or share your information to provide you with personalized advertisements, recommendations, or other tailored content.”

There are two separate options:
- Sharing usage information to improve Nintendo products and services.
- Sharing usage information to receive personalized offers and recommendations.
If you only want to stop tailored offers, you can leave the first as it is. Change both if you want to limit both uses.
Nintendo says recommendations on its website can be based on parameters such as play history. They require a signed-in account and depend on your allowing Nintendo to customize offers and recommendations. Its privacy description says usage information can include content played or purchased and features used, and that it may be processed or shared for targeted advertising and customized recommendations.
Supervised Nintendo accounts
The family group manager signs in, selects the child’s account, and opens that account’s data usage preferences.

PlayStation
PlayStation’s privacy guidance lists account choices for three uses:

- Using personal information to recommend products and services tailored to your interests.
- Showing personalized ads in Sony services and on third-party apps and sites.
- Sending video or music recommendations from partner services.
The general privacy route is Account Management > Privacy settings on the web, or Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy on a PS5. PlayStation says account privacy changes are reflected across devices. Be careful on that screen. Many privacy options there govern who can see your profile or contact you. Those are not the personalization choices. Look for the options about personalized recommendations and advertising.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s guidance is direct about the limit: “If this is turned off, you may still see offers and recommendations, but they may be less relevant to your interests.”

Fortnite and Epic Games
Epic says: “If you are eligible to receive personalized recommendations, you can control your personalized recommendations in the Fortnite settings menu, under ‘account and privacy’ and ‘gameplay privacy.'” (Epic Games, “Recommendations and Ranking in Fortnite and Fall Guys.”)
- Open Fortnite and go to Settings.
- Choose Account and Privacy.
- Open Gameplay Privacy and find the personalized recommendations option.
If you don’t see the option, you may not be eligible. Epic ties the control to eligibility.

Fall Guys
Epic describes Fall Guys recommendations as based on game information, including play frequency, completion and dropout rates, respawns, and likes or dislikes, at individual and group levels. Epic’s page doesn’t document an equivalent user-facing opt-out for Fall Guys, so don’t assume the Fortnite setting carries over.

If you play on a Windows PC, or your Microsoft account ties into Xbox, two layers matter. Microsoft says Windows personalization may use information about your use of Microsoft products and services, including Xbox.
Personalized offers
Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Personalized offers. This governs tips, ads and recommendations based on your Windows activity.

Advertising ID
Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers. Microsoft says the Advertising ID switch affects apps that use that identifier. Turning it off doesn’t reduce the number of ads you see, and it doesn’t cover other interest-based advertising methods.
Third-party personalized ads
A separate Microsoft account privacy control governs sharing data with third parties for personalized ads on third-party sites. It’s a different scope from Windows offers, console settings, or ads inside games, so changing one doesn’t change the others.
Xbox consoles
Microsoft publishes a support page on personalized recommendations for Xbox, but its exact menu steps couldn’t be verified for this guide, so none are listed here rather than guessing. Open Xbox Support, search for personalized recommendations and Xbox privacy settings, and follow the current steps while signed in to the account you actually play on. Also check the Windows and Microsoft account controls above, since they share the same account.
What opting out will not do
- Ads and recommendations stay. Opting out usually reduces relevance or data sharing. Store rows, banners and promotions still appear.
- Analytics may continue. Recommendation and offer settings are often separate from service-improvement choices, and neither removes data processing needed to run your account, purchases or online play.
- Scope is narrow. A setting on one platform, game or device doesn’t cover another. A Fortnite toggle won’t change PlayStation, and a Nintendo setting won’t change Windows.
- Past data isn’t necessarily erased. These toggles govern use and sharing. Deleting data is a separate privacy request on each platform.
Children and supervised accounts
A parent or family manager may need to change the setting, and the available controls can differ for younger players. Nintendo’s route is the clearest: the family group manager opens the child’s account preferences. For other platforms, check the child’s account itself, and don’t assume your own settings apply to it.

- Read each toggle’s description to see whether it covers recommendations, ads, sharing, or analytics.
- Change the ones that match your goal and leave the others deliberately.
- Repeat for each child account.
- Recheck after major system updates, since labels and eligibility can change.
