Compare the exact refurbished PS5 Pro listing with the current new-console price, then subtract the cost of missing hardware and weigh the seller’s warranty and return terms. As of October 7, 2026, Sony’s US certified-refurbished catalog reviewed here lists slim PS5 consoles and controllers, not a refurbished PS5 Pro. That does not rule out third-party refurbished offers, but their condition and protections must be checked individually.
What should you use as the new PS5 Pro price?
Sony announced a US recommended retail price of $899.99 for the PS5 Pro, effective April 2, 2026. PlayStation Direct’s US catalog page reviewed on October 7, 2026, displayed the 2 TB model at $899. These are not identical price references: one is Sony’s announced recommended retail price and the other is a store-page display that can change. Check the live listing, stock, and checkout total before comparing offers. Sony’s price announcement and the PlayStation Direct console catalog provide those dated references.

How to compare a refurbished PS5 Pro and a new one
| What to compare | Check on the exact refurbished listing | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Model identity | Confirm it is a PS5 Pro, not a standard PS5 or PS5 Slim. Ask for a clear model or SKU photo if the listing is vague. | “PS5” wording can refer to different consoles, and Sony’s reviewed US certified-refurbished catalog does not list a Pro. |
| Total price | Add item price, tax, shipping, required accessories, and a disc drive if you need one. | Compare the result with the live price of a new Pro, using Sony’s $899.99 US recommended retail price effective April 2, 2026, only as a dated benchmark. |
| Refurbishment and condition | Find out who inspected it, what testing was performed, whether parts were replaced, its cosmetic grade, and whether the serial number is intact. | Sony’s recertification and testing statements apply to products in its own certified-refurbished program, not automatically to units refurbished by other sellers. |
| Warranty | Identify the provider, term, start date, exclusions, proof-of-purchase rules, and who pays for shipping or service. | Warranty coverage can differ by seller and region; do not assume a refurbished listing carries Sony’s warranty. |
| Returns | Check the return deadline, restocking fees, required condition, and responsibility for return shipping. | A restrictive return policy can make a small saving less attractive if the console arrives with a fault. |
| Included hardware | Confirm the controller, power and HDMI cables, stand or feet, packaging, and—if needed—a disc drive are included. | Replacing omitted items reduces the effective saving. The PS5 Pro is disc-less; its Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive is sold separately. |
| Your games and display | Check whether the games you play support PS5 Pro enhancements and whether your display can make the improvements useful to you. | Sony says enhancements are limited to supported titles and vary by game, so not every PS5 game will benefit in the same way. |
How to check warranty and refurbishment claims
Keep Sony’s certification separate from third-party refurbishment
Sony says products in its certified-refurbished program undergo full testing to the same functional standards as new PlayStation products and include its standard one-year limited warranty. That assurance is specific to Sony’s program. A third-party seller’s use of “refurbished” does not establish that Sony tested the console, that the seller followed Sony’s process, or that Sony will honor a warranty. Check the Sony certified-refurbished catalog and the exact seller’s listing rather than treating the terms as interchangeable.

Read the warranty for your region and purchase
Sony’s US PS5 warranty text describes one-year coverage for the original purchaser, requires proof of purchase for service, and says the warranty is valid only in the United States and Canada. Those terms do not automatically transfer to a used or third-party-refurbished purchase. Before paying, confirm who is responsible for a repair, when coverage begins, whether you qualify as the covered purchaser, and whether shipping or other costs are excluded. See Sony’s PS5 warranty terms.
What to verify before you buy
- Confirm the console: make sure the listing says PS5 Pro and request a model or SKU photo if the description is unclear.
- Get the condition in writing: look for the cosmetic grade, inspection or test details, any replaced parts, and confirmation that the serial number is present.
- Identify the warranty: note the provider, length, start date, proof-of-purchase requirement, exclusions, and service or shipping costs.
- Check the return terms: record the deadline, any restocking fee, the condition required for a return, and who pays return shipping.
- Inventory the box contents: confirm the controller and cables, and whether you need to buy an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive separately.
- Calculate the checkout total: include tax, shipping, missing accessories, and the disc drive if you use physical games or UHD Blu-rays; compare that figure with a current new offer.
- Check your use case: look up whether the games you care about have PS5 Pro enhancements rather than assuming every title does.
Is a refurbished PS5 Pro worth it?
It can be worth considering when the listing clearly identifies a PS5 Pro, the seller explains its testing and condition, the warranty and returns are acceptable, and the net saving remains meaningful after you account for missing items and any loss of protection. Prefer a new console when the price gap is small or the seller cannot clearly state what was tested, what is covered, or how returns work. No single discount threshold fits every offer; the value depends on the exact price and terms.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
For physical-game collections or UHD Blu-ray viewing, include the separate drive in the comparison: Sony says the PS5 Pro does not include one and that an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive can be purchased separately. Sony also lists a 2 TB SSD for the Pro. Its PS5 Pro product page describes enhancements for supported games; check the titles you play rather than assuming the upgrade applies across the whole PS5 library. Sony’s 2024 announcement also says the user interface and network services remain the same as PS5: Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro.
