To set up a 75-inch TV safely, match the support to the exact TV model, place it on a stable TV stand or attach it to a suitable wall mount, and prevent the set or furniture from tipping. The screen size alone does not tell you which stand, mount, screws, or wall fixings will work.
Before you choose a stand or wall mount
Find the TV’s exact model number and read its manual. Check the set’s weight, dimensions, mounting pattern and placement requirements, then compare those details with the support’s specifications. For a stand, confirm both its rated capacity and top dimensions; for a wall mount, confirm its compatibility with the TV’s mounting pattern and weight.
Think about the wall and room as well as the screen. Wall construction affects how a mount can be fastened, while children, pets and reachable cords can affect the risk of a tip or pull. There is no universal stand size, mounting hardware or viewing height for every 75-inch TV.
Set up the TV on a stand
- Choose suitable furniture. Use a sturdy, low TV stand or media center designed to support a television. Verify its rated capacity and surface dimensions against the TV’s manual and product dimensions. Avoid dressers, unstable shelves, unsuitable bedroom furniture and placing cloth between the TV and its supporting surface. - Position the set securely. Follow the TV maker’s placement and ventilation instructions. Keep the entire set supported by the furniture, without overhang, and push it back from the front edge.
- Reduce tip-over risk. Anchor the TV and the furniture to the wall when appropriate, using hardware suited to the specific TV, furniture and wall. Recheck the attachments periodically. CPSC advises anchoring TVs that are not wall-mounted; when anchoring is not possible, its February 2026 guidance recommends a sturdy, low base, pushing the TV back as far as possible and keeping cords out of reach. - Keep the area hard to tug or climb toward. Do not leave toys, remotes or other tempting items on the TV or high furniture. Route cords so children cannot grab or pull them and people cannot trip over them.
Set up the TV on a wall mount
- Check the TV’s mounting requirements. Use the exact model’s manual to confirm its VESA mounting pattern, weight, screw diameter and length, approved mount type and any placement restrictions. A “75-inch” label is not a mounting specification.
- Match the mount to the set. Choose a mount rated for the TV’s actual weight and compatible with its mounting pattern. A fixed, tilting or articulating mount may suit different room needs, but check the specific TV and mount manuals before deciding.
- Confirm the wall and fasteners. Identify the wall construction and use the attachment method specified for that wall, mount and TV. Manufacturer instructions can call for different fasteners or additional material depending on wall type. For example, Samsung’s manual for a particular QLED product family says brackets should be fastened to both the wall and TV with appropriately sized screws and notes that additional material, such as wall anchors, may be needed depending on the wall. Its specifications are not instructions for other TV models.
- Plan the lift and installation. Follow the manufacturer’s handling and installation instructions, and get enough capable help to lift and position the screen. Do not proceed if the installation exceeds your ability or the instructions for the wall or mount. CPSC advises considering a professional installer and warns against homemade brackets and shelving. Stand or wall mount: which is safer for your setup?
Neither option is automatically safer in every home. A stand avoids fastening the TV to the wall, but the TV and furniture can still tip and may need anchoring. A wall mount removes the set from furniture, but safety depends on the mount, wall and installation being appropriate for that exact TV. Compare the practical requirements:

Why tip-over prevention matters
CPSC estimated an annual average of 22,500 Americans were treated in emergency departments for tip-over injuries during 2018–2020; nearly 44% were children under 18. The agency also reported 581 furniture, TV or appliance tip-over fatalities since 2000, including 472 involving children.
