Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBitcoin and Ethereum eased on October 7, 2026, after a rebound, but the cited price snapshots do not confirm a deeper correction. The immediate test for Bitcoin is whether it can reclaim the $87,000 area; a sustained break below lower support would strengthen the pullback case. Ethereum has separate, older chart levels to watch, so those need a fresh check before being treated as current.
What is happening to Bitcoin and Ethereum?
Business Today reported Bitcoin (BTC) near $85,950, down about 0.2%, and Ethereum (ETH) near $2,709, down about 0.3%, on October 7. Those are that publication’s estimates for the day, not live prices or a market-wide benchmark. It described both assets as trading in relatively tight ranges after a rebound.
The clearest shared signal in the cited coverage is Bitcoin’s repeated failure to hold above roughly $87,000. That points to resistance and fading short-term momentum, not proof that a larger downturn has begun. A pullback remains a risk scenario whose significance depends on whether lower levels hold.
Bitcoin: the $87,000 ceiling and conditional support tests
Business Today reported that Bitcoin had met repeated resistance around $87,000 since September 23. Rain’s October 5 review gives context for the swings: BTC reached a $82,500 sweep low on September 28, reclaimed the $82,800 May high that day, then reached $87,200 on October 2 before closing that day at $84,500.

Rain’s outlook set out a conditional bullish scenario rather than a prediction. It said a four-hour close above $86,800 would support a possible move toward $88,000, the center of the short-liquidation pool it tracked. It also said three consecutive four-hour closes below $82,500 would invalidate that preferred near-term scenario. These are Rain’s chart rules, not guaranteed resistance, support, or price targets; the post was published by its author in a personal capacity and was not investment advice or a solicitation.
Ethereum: earlier levels need a fresh chart check
CryptoCompass’s September 30 outlook identified $2,800 as Ethereum’s initial resistance test. It said losing $2,600 could expose the $2,450–$2,500 area, and gave a roughly $2,450–$3,050 October range. ETH was reported near $2,709 on October 7, between those cited thresholds.

Because those ETH levels come from an analysis published a week before the October 7 price snapshot, they should be treated as reference points from that outlook, not confirmed current levels. Prices can move quickly, and chart methods may differ between publishers.

What ETF flows, leverage, and macro conditions add
Rain reported $82.9 million in net U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows from September 28 through October 2, following $2.4 billion the previous week. It also reported that October 1’s $148.7 million outflow ended a nine-day inflow run. For Ethereum ETFs, Rain reported $118.0 million in outflows over the same cited week. These are contextual flow figures; they do not prove why prices moved.
Rain also said Bitcoin futures open interest had recovered 10.2% from that week’s low, while funding rose to 0.0083 against a stated neutral rate of 0.0100. Rain interpreted returning leverage alongside relatively weak spot buying as a reason to watch whether price could sustain a move through overhead liquidity. That is the publication’s interpretation, not an established causal mechanism.

Macro expectations were another part of the backdrop. Business Today cited caution ahead of Federal Reserve meeting minutes and a slightly firmer U.S. dollar. Rain described changing market-implied expectations for an October rate hike after economic data and comments from a New York Fed official; those estimates are not official Federal Reserve policy probabilities. The available reporting does not establish that macro developments alone caused crypto prices to ease.

- For Bitcoin: the cited reports show resistance near $87,000, while Rain’s October 5 scenario hinges on a four-hour close above $86,800 or, on the downside, three consecutive four-hour closes below $82,500.
- For Ethereum: the September 30 outlook placed resistance at $2,800 and lower thresholds at $2,600 and $2,450–$2,500, but those levels need checking against a current chart.
- For both: ETF flows, leverage readings, and macro expectations provide context, not confirmation of a specific cause or future price direction.
These levels are snapshots from named publications and can become outdated as prices change. Neither technical levels nor fund flows guarantee that support will hold or that a breakdown will follow.
