GameStop’s published guidance gives pre-owned purchases a 7-day refund window and a 15-day replacement window. Its refurbished-console listing says defective pre-owned and refurbished products can be exchanged within 15 days, extended to 30 days for GameStop Pro members. Those windows describe returns and exchanges; they do not establish a separate long-term warranty included with every refurbished console.
What is GameStop’s return policy on refurbished consoles?
GameStop’s Help Center return guidance, updated in 2026, says pre-owned items may be refunded within 7 days and replaced within 15 days. A refurbished-console product listing gives a more specific defective-product term: a full exchange within 15 days, or within 30 days for GameStop Pro members. Because the general help rule and the product listing describe terms differently, check the exact console listing and your receipt for the terms that apply to your purchase.
| Situation | Published window | What the source says |
|---|---|---|
| Refund for a pre-owned item | 7 days | GameStop Help Center, updated 2026 |
| Replacement for a pre-owned item | 15 days | GameStop Help Center, updated 2026 |
| Exchange for a defective pre-owned or refurbished product | 15 days | GameStop refurbished-console listing, observed October 7, 2026 |
| Defective-product exchange for GameStop Pro members | 30 days | Extended window stated on the same product listing; verify membership status and order-specific terms |
Does a refurbished GameStop console come with a warranty?
The reviewed policy pages establish refund and exchange windows, but do not establish a universal, longer-term warranty included with every refurbished console. A product page may display a separate product protection plan. Treat that as optional coverage, not as part of the return window, and read the plan’s terms for duration, covered failures, exclusions, and claim requirements before relying on it. Plan availability and product listings can change.
What if the console is defective—or does not match expectations?
For a defect, the product listing describes an exchange within 15 days, extended to 30 days for GameStop Pro members. Confirm the deadline and requirements against the product page and receipt, then use an eligible return method before the applicable window expires.

Pre-owned and refurbished condition can vary. GameStop says products are tested for functionality, but a console may have normal wear and may arrive without its original packaging, manuals, or some accessories. Product images may not depict the exact item you receive. Check the listing’s included-items details rather than assuming a particular accessory is included.
How to return a GameStop console
- Check the purchase documents. Find the purchase date, receipt or packing slip, and the specific product’s return terms. Confirm that the item is still within its applicable window.
- Choose an eligible return route. GameStop says in-store purchases must be returned to a GameStop store with a receipt. Eligible online purchases under $500 may also be returned in store with the packing slip.
- Start an online return when required. Eligible online returns can be started through GameStop’s returns process. The Help Center lists online return shipping at $8.99–$14.99; it says in-store returns do not include this fee.
- Check for portal exclusions before shipping. The standard returns portal cannot process orders with digital content, Same Day Delivery, or Buy Online, Pick Up In Store. Follow the applicable instructions on GameStop’s return page or contact GameStop if the order does not fit the portal process.
What to compare before buying a refurbished console
For a useful comparison between listings, check the refund period, defective-exchange deadline, any membership extension, whether protection is included or optional, return method and shipping cost, and the condition and included accessories. Do not assume another seller uses GameStop’s terms.
