To stop followers from seeing what you play, turn off Listening Activity in Spotify’s privacy settings, or use Private Session for a temporary pause. These controls hide activity from other users; they do not erase Spotify’s stored listening history. Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped rules also distinguish total listening minutes from taste-based stories, and Spotify has not documented a separate privacy switch for the Top Song Quiz.
Hide listening from followers
Spotify’s settings guidance, checked October 7, 2026, gives these paths. Labels and availability can vary by app version or market; the cited settings pages are localized for Australia and Pakistan.
- On mobile: tap your profile picture, then Settings and privacy → Privacy and Social.
- On desktop: click your profile picture, then Settings → Social.
- Turn off Listening Activity to stop sharing what you play in followers’ Friend Activity feed. [Spotify Support: Listening activity]
Spotify lists several social controls as on by default for users 18 or older and off for younger users. If you are under 18, Spotify advises consulting a guardian before changing these settings. [Spotify Support: Listening activity]
Use a temporary Private Session
A Private Session temporarily hides your activity when Listening Activity sharing is on. Spotify says it resets automatically after six hours or when the app restarts, and is available in its mobile, tablet and desktop apps. [Spotify Support: Private listening]

Use the persistent Listening Activity switch when you want to stop sharing until you turn it back on; use a Private Session for a temporary break. Neither setting deletes the listening history Spotify retains for its service.
Hide profile and playlist details separately
Listening Activity is not the only way music can be visible. In the same Privacy and Social or Social settings area, Spotify lists controls for recently played artists on your public profile, whether new playlists are public, and whether new playlists appear on your profile. Review those independently if you want to limit profile visibility; changing Listening Activity alone does not set playlist or profile privacy. [Spotify Support: Listening activity]

Understand what Spotify still keeps
Hiding activity from followers is different from deleting data held by Spotify. Its U.S.-localized privacy policy says streaming history is retained for the life of an account and is deleted or de-identified when the account is deleted. A Private Session therefore should not be treated as a way to erase account listening history. [Spotify Privacy Policy]
What private listening means for 2025 Wrapped
Spotify’s published rules for 2025 Wrapped distinguish total listening time from taste-based stories. Spotify said listening in Private Mode and using Exclude from Taste Profile count toward total time spent with Spotify, but do not shape taste-based stories. Spotify’s 2025 announcement says streams from Private Mode or content excluded from a Taste Profile do not count toward Wrapped eligibility. Its guide specifies the 2025 threshold: at least 30 songs streamed for more than 30 seconds each, and at least five different artists. Can you make the Top Song Quiz private?
Spotify introduced the Top Song Quiz as an interactive feature in its 2025 Wrapped experience in the mobile app; it asks listeners to guess which track soundtracked their year. The announcement does not explain whether individual quiz answers are visible to others or processed separately, and it does not document a dedicated privacy toggle for quiz responses. For the documented privacy controls, manage listening visibility and profile settings as described above. Do not assume a Private Session hides or deletes listening history from Spotify, or that it changes the visibility of a quiz answer; Spotify’s cited materials do not establish either result.

Spotify announced a separate, opt-in Listening Activity feature in Messages on January 7, 2026, which can show what you are playing to connected message contacts. Subsequent updates say that, as of June 17, 2026, joining a group with activity enabled shares real-time status with that group by default, with controls in group chat settings. As of September 17, 2026, you can hide another person’s activity from their profile without changing messaging or follow status. These audience controls are distinct from the follower Friend Activity setting, so review the relevant message or group settings if your concern is contacts in Messages.
