Its published compatibility list names selected PS5 Phat and Slim models and firmware versions, but not the Pro. Sony’s PS5 Pro materials likewise do not document Linux support. That is a statement about the available documentation—not proof that private work does not exist or that future support is impossible.
Before buying hardware or following instructions written for another PS5 model, check the exact console and firmware against the project’s current support list. Storage or peripheral compatibility alone does not establish that a Linux exploit or installation method works on PS5 Pro.
What the published Linux support list says
The community-maintained ps5-linux project README lists support for PS5 Phat and Slim models on specified firmware versions from 3.00 through certain releases up to 7.61. It does not name PS5 Pro. Because the README can change, consult its live compatibility list rather than relying on older instructions.
Use this check before treating any guide or parts list as relevant:

- Identify the console model: Phat, Slim, or Pro.
- Check the installed firmware version.
- Confirm that the project explicitly lists that exact model and firmware combination.
- Do not infer support from a similar-looking console, a shared port, or compatible storage.
If the project does not explicitly list PS5 Pro, the documented support does not establish that its exploit or Linux setup works on that model. The reviewed sources do not establish the current status of any separate or unpublished PS5 Pro project.
Why storage and ports do not prove Linux compatibility
Sony’s PS5 Pro setup guide describes its ports, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, and explains how to transfer an M.2 SSD from another PS5. Those are hardware and storage details—not confirmation that a Linux exploit or operating-system installation is compatible.

The project README mentions M.2 storage only for certain firmware on the Phat and Slim models it lists. The distinction matters: a drive fitting or functioning in a console does not show that the console can run the project’s Linux method.
Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility page covers selected accessories, including stands, a disc drive, and covers; it does not list Linux support. Neither accessory compatibility nor Sony’s storage guidance should be read as an endorsement or compatibility claim for modding.

Do not turn the project’s parts list into a PS5 Pro shopping list
For its listed supported models, the README calls for a USB drive of at least 64 GB and a USB keyboard and mouse; it recommends an external SSD and describes optional networking through a USB WLAN adapter, with a Bluetooth dongle as an option for connecting a DualSense controller. These are project-specific details for the models the README supports. They are not a validated bill of materials for PS5 Pro.
Until a project explicitly documents Pro support, buying those items for a PS5 Pro Linux attempt risks spending money on hardware that may not help. The available documentation does not verify a compatible Pro setup.

Understand the update and policy risks
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement restricts unauthorized or modified hardware and software, tools used to bypass PS5 encryption, security, or authentication, reinstalling earlier system software, and exploiting system software beyond the permitted use described in the agreement. The agreement says its restrictions apply to the greatest extent permitted by the user’s jurisdiction. This is Sony’s contractual language, not a universal determination of how the terms apply in every location.
Sony also says system software updates may include security patches that prevent access to unauthorized content or use of unauthorized hardware or software. Updates may change settings, cause data or content loss, or remove functionality or features. Sony recommends regularly backing up data that can be backed up. A community project’s recommendation to disable automatic updates is not a guarantee of safety, reliability, or compatibility, and it does not override Sony’s terms.

What is—and is not—established about consequences
The reviewed public documentation does not establish a universal legal outcome, warranty decision, failure rate, or reliability estimate for attempting Linux on PS5 Pro. Do not treat a warning in a guide, an anecdote, or compatibility on another model as proof of what will happen to a particular console. For policy questions, read the current agreement applicable to your region; for technical support claims, look for an explicit model-and-firmware entry in the project’s current documentation.
Why PS5 Pro’s performance claims do not change the compatibility answer
In its 2024 launch announcement, Sony said PS5 Pro has 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the then-current PS5, and claimed up to 45% faster gameplay rendering compared with PS5. The rendering figure is Sony’s stated comparison, not an independent benchmark. Sony also announced a 2 TB SSD and launch MSRPs of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY including tax; those are dated launch prices, not current quotes. None of these product specifications or launch claims demonstrates Linux or exploit compatibility.
