To open a Fortnite island with a code, go to Play → Discover, enter the code in the Search bar, select the matching island, then choose Play. To find islands without a code, search by title or browse Discover categories. A published island may be playable by code even when it does not appear in Discover.
Open an island with a code
- Launch Fortnite and open Play. If Discover does not open automatically, scroll down to reveal the Search bar. Epic’s current player-support steps use this route; the exact starting screen can vary by interface version. Epic’s search instructions describe the available search options.
- Enter the island code in Search. The standard format is four digits, a hyphen, four digits, a hyphen, and four digits: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. If the code with hyphens does not work, try the form shown by the creator or enter it without hyphens if the current search field accepts that format. Epic’s publishing guidance documents the code format.
- Select the matching island tile to open its details. Check the description and the rating shown for your region, then choose Play. From the island page, you can also favorite it or set party access to public or private. Epic’s Discover documentation explains these options.
Find maps without an island code
In Discover, search by the island’s title or browse the available categories. Category rows—including examples such as Trending and By Epic—can change, so use Search if a familiar row is not visible. Epic also documents searches for creator codes and custom keys, in addition to island names and codes. See Epic’s search guidance.
To revisit an island, favorite it from its detail page. Discover’s Library view includes Favorites and Recently Played, making those useful places to look for maps you have already opened. Epic’s Discover documentation describes the Library.
Why an island may not appear in Discover
Discover visibility depends on the island’s publishing state. A listed island is eligible to surface in Discover; an unlisted island has been published and has a code, but is not available through Discover browsing. Anyone with its code can play an unlisted island. An unpublished island has no player-accessible release and no island code. Epic’s publishing-page documentation distinguishes these states.

Fix common code and access problems
The code returns no result
Check the digits and separators against the code provided by the creator. The documented pattern is xxxx-xxxx-xxxx; try the creator’s displayed version if the field rejects a particular format. An unpublished island cannot be found with a code because it does not have one. Epic’s code and publishing guidance explains this distinction.
The island appears but is locked
Parental controls can block islands rated above the account’s configured level. The island details show its rating, and Fortnite may offer an unlock flow that requires a parental PIN. A guardian can manage access later through parental controls. Ratings and descriptors are region-specific, so rely on the rating displayed in your own island details rather than assuming another region’s label applies. You want to find a creator’s other islands
After searching, open the result menu and choose View Developer if that option is available. It leads to the developer’s other published islands. Epic’s player-support instructions describe this option.
