If a game starts crashing or performing poorly after an update, you can try restoring an earlier NVIDIA driver. First check whether Windows retained the previous driver: NVIDIA documents a Device Manager rollback for certain older Windows versions, while NVIDIA App users can reinstall a previously installed driver. If neither option is available, download the older driver for your exact GPU and operating system from NVIDIA.
Before you roll back, note the current driver version
Confirm that the game problem began after its update, then record your installed NVIDIA driver version. In NVIDIA Control Panel, open Help > System Information. Alternatively, open the graphics device’s properties in Device Manager and check the Driver tab. NVIDIA describes both ways to find the version in its driver help.
Keep a note of the version you intend to install as well. That makes it easier to confirm which driver is active after the change and to return to the current release if needed.
Try Device Manager rollback if Windows still has the older driver
In Device Manager, expand Display adapters, open the NVIDIA graphics device’s properties, and select the Driver tab. If Roll Back Driver is available, follow the prompts.

NVIDIA says this rollback may work when the newer driver was installed over the older one without first uninstalling the older version. If the previous driver was removed, the rollback option is unavailable. Important: NVIDIA’s detailed Device Manager instructions specify Windows XP, Vista, and 7; they do not verify the current Windows 10 or 11 menu flow. Reinstall a driver from NVIDIA App
If you use NVIDIA App and the driver you want appears in its driver list, NVIDIA documents a reinstall option for a previously installed driver:

- Open the driver list in NVIDIA App and locate the driver you want to restore.
- Click the three-dot menu beneath that driver’s details.
- Select Reinstall and follow the installer prompts.
This applies to a driver previously installed through the App; NVIDIA’s instructions do not guarantee that every older release will be available for every system. The steps are described in NVIDIA’s NVIDIA App release article.
Download and install an older driver manually
If Windows cannot roll back the driver, or the one you need is not available in NVIDIA App, use NVIDIA’s official download page. Select your exact graphics product and operating system rather than copying a driver version chosen for another PC. NVIDIA’s page offers product and OS selectors, plus an advanced search for previously released certified or beta drivers; available releases vary by product and operating system.

- Open NVIDIA Download Drivers.
- Choose the GPU product and operating system that match your computer.
- Use the available search options to find an older release, then download and install the appropriate driver.
- Restart if the installer requests it, then test the game again.

A rollback is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. The cited NVIDIA guidance does not establish that a game update always causes a driver problem or that installing an older driver will resolve every crash or performance issue. If the game still has trouble, note the driver version and the symptoms and check for game-specific guidance from the game developer. Avoid changing several settings at once; doing so makes it harder to tell whether the driver change helped.
