It depends on the service and the specific change. An app integration does not automatically mean the old service is shutting down, and it does not guarantee that your watchlist, profiles, or downloads will move. Some providers let eligible users link or transfer a profile; downloads generally remain tied to the provider’s app, account, plan, and supported devices. Check the service’s own notice before the change rather than assuming your data will follow you.
Will I lose my watchlist if a streaming service changes?
Not necessarily, but there is no universal migration rule. A provider might keep its existing service running while adding its catalog to another app, offer a supported feature to link selected profile data, or let a member transfer a profile to another account. A change in app experience alone does not establish that every subscriber’s data will transfer.
For example, Hulu’s US help page dated May 19, 2026, said Hulu and Hulu Premium subscriptions would continue while further Hulu integration within Disney+ was planned for later in 2026. That was a dated provider statement, not a guarantee that every account or item would move; check the current notice for your account and region. Hulu’s update
A linked watchlist may be partial or one-way
In Disney+’s US instructions dated May 19, 2026, eligible Hulu subscribers can link a Hulu profile. Most Hulu watch history appears in Disney+ Continue Watching, and items in Hulu My Stuff appear in Disney+ Watchlist. The link works one way: activity in Disney+ does not sync back to Hulu. Disney+ says linking is not available at this time to Hulu Live TV plan subscribers, Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle subscribers, or Hulu add-on subscribers. Its Hulu linking help page also excludes Kids profiles and profiles for people under 18. Even an eligible account may not see the feature immediately.
Will my profiles and watch history move to a new app?
Only if the provider offers a supported linking or transfer feature and your account and profile meet its conditions. A profile move is not the same as moving a subscription: it may copy preferences and viewing data without changing billing, plan access, or the original account.

Netflix Profile Transfer is a separate account feature
Netflix’s guidance describes transferring a profile to a new or existing account, or moving it to an Extra Member slot, subject to profile and account conditions. Data that can transfer includes the profile name and icon, recommendations, viewing history, My List, game saves, and settings. Payment information does not transfer. When a profile is transferred to a new or existing account, it is copied; it can later be removed from the original account. Moving a profile to an Extra Member slot removes it from the original account. The primary profile cannot be moved to an Extra Member slot, and that move must happen during the purchase process. Netflix’s cited help page is in Dutch, so check the current instructions and eligibility for your country before starting.

Netflix Product Manager Timi Kosztin announced Profile Transfer on October 17, 2022, as a way for people using an account to take personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other settings when starting their own membership. The announcement was updated July 11, 2023, to note that transfer to an existing account was supported. Netflix’s Profile Transfer announcement
What happens to downloads if I cancel or switch plans?
Treat downloads separately from profile data. Provider instructions describe offline viewing through the service’s app under account, plan, device, and licensing conditions—not as ordinary video files that can be carried into another service.

Netflix downloads
Netflix downloads are device-bound, require you to remain signed in, can expire, and may be restricted by licensing. Netflix says canceling your account deletes downloads from the device. If you restart your membership, you need to download titles again; a title that has left Netflix cannot be downloaded again after its existing download expires. Disney+ downloads
Disney+’s US download help, dated June 4, 2026, says downloads are available on supported mobile devices with eligible plans. The subscription must remain active, and the device must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days. Some downloads are time-limited, and some titles cannot be downloaded. Logging out removes downloaded content from the device. Disney+ download guidance

Disney+ says canceling or switching to a plan that does not support downloads means losing access to them. Its troubleshooting guidance describes a 30-day offline availability period, unless a title leaves the library sooner. Disney+ download troubleshooting

Use the provider’s specific announcement and account help page to make a short checklist. Do not assume there is a universal export or backup option.
- Confirm the change and date. Is this a shutdown, an app integration, a profile-linking feature, or a profile transfer? Note the announced date and the countries covered.
- Check whether the old service remains available. Find out whether your existing app and subscription continue, and for how long.
- Check profile and plan eligibility. Look for exclusions based on profile type or age, bundle, add-ons, plan, account status, device, or region.
- Identify exactly what moves. Check whether the feature includes watch history, a list, recommendations, settings, or other data—and whether it copies the profile or removes it from the original account.
- Check sync direction and content limits. A linked list may be one-way, not every title may be available in the new app, and the destination may limit how many items it can hold.
- Review billing separately. Profile transfer does not itself settle subscription, payment, or plan changes. Follow the provider’s billing notice.
- Plan around downloads. Check the plan and device rules, expiration, internet check-in requirements, and what cancellation or a plan switch does to offline access.
- Look for an action deadline. Confirm whether linking or transferring is automatic, requires you to act, or must be completed during a purchase flow.
Service rules and interfaces can change. Use the help page and notice for your account and location, especially when the provider’s published instructions are dated or for a different country.
