For a few images destined for your phone, use the original Nintendo Switch’s QR-code transfer from Album. For a desktop guide or a larger batch, copy captures directly to a computer over a data-capable USB cable. Review each capture first, make any quick on-console text edits, and keep the original until you have checked the transferred copy.
Capture and review the moment on your original Nintendo Switch
- Press the Capture Button on the left Joy-Con to take a still screenshot.
- Open HOME > Album and confirm the image is present and readable before continuing. Some screens and some software block capture, so do not assume every game scene can be saved.
For a guide, capture the relevant screen while it is visible, then check that important interface text and details can be seen in Album. Nintendo’s instructions do not establish a universal capture workaround for games or screens that block screenshots.
Make quick edits in Album
Select a still in Album and choose Sharing and Editing > Add Text. The console lets you adjust the text’s size, color, position, and angle, which is enough for a brief label or callout.
For a captured video, Album can trim a section or save a paused frame as a still. These are lightweight console edits; they are not a substitute for a full desktop image-editing workflow when a guide needs more extensive annotation or layout.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a transfer route for your guide workflow
| Route | Best fit | Limits and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Send to Smartphone (QR) | A few captures going to a phone | Up to 10 screenshots or one video per operation; save the displayed media from the phone browser. |
| Copy to a Computer via USB | A desktop guide workflow or a larger library | Use a data-capable USB cable. Nintendo describes this route for Windows; other operating systems may need MTP software and are not guaranteed. |
| microSD card | Storage management or a card-based transfer when you have a compatible reader | Requires handling the card and a computer SD slot or card reader for card-level copying; it is not necessary for QR or direct USB transfer. |
Nintendo does not publish comparative transfer-speed measurements for these methods. Choose by destination and equipment rather than assuming one is objectively faster.
Transfer a small batch to a phone
- In HOME > Album, select the capture and choose Send to Smartphone.
- Scan the first QR code with the phone to connect to the console.
- Scan the second QR code to display the selected files, then save them from the phone browser.
The documented maximum is 10 screenshots or one video in a transfer operation (Nintendo Support Japan; year not stated on the support page). Nintendo recommends a current phone operating system, the standard Camera app and Safari on iPhone, and Chrome on Android. If the media does not appear, Nintendo suggests temporarily turning off mobile data.

Copy captures to a computer over USB
- On the Switch, open System Settings > Data Management > Manage Screenshots and Videos > Copy to a Computer via USB. Menu wording can vary with console language, region, or system software.
- Connect the console directly to the computer with the HAC-010 USB charging cable or a USB-IF-certified cable that supports data transfer. Nintendo says HAC-010 is the only cable it has checked; a charge-only cable is not sufficient.
- Select the Switch device on the computer and open Nintendo Switch > Album to find the captures.
- Copy the files to your guide project or working library, then open a few copied files to confirm they transfer and display correctly before relying on them.
Nintendo documents this computer-copy feature for Windows and states that it has no per-transfer file-count limit. A Mac or other non-Windows system may work with MTP-compatible software, but Nintendo does not guarantee that route or support third-party MTP software. The USB workflow copies captures from the console; it does not let the computer write files back to the Switch or delete console captures.
Use microSD only when the card workflow helps
Album can copy captures between system memory and microSD individually; the settings management screen also supports batch copying. Nintendo distinguishes screenshot and video storage on microSD from save data, which is stored in system memory. For card-level copying, use a computer’s SD slot or a card reader/writer. This adds card handling and is optional if QR transfer or direct USB already suits the job.

Protect originals and avoid outdated sharing instructions
- Keep the console originals until transferred copies have been checked. USB computer copying does not delete captures from the console.
- When you are ready to remove captures, use Album or the console’s data-management settings rather than expecting deletion through USB.
- Do not plan a workflow around direct X posting from the original Switch: Nintendo ended that feature on June 11, 2024. Facebook posting is described in Nintendo’s original-Switch guidance, but availability can depend on account or service state.
- Do not apply Nintendo Switch 2 app instructions to the original Switch. Switch 2 uses a separate app flow involving temporary server uploads and app downloads; Nintendo’s general app guidance says this capture feature is not available on original Switch.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It is for capturing web pages, not images from a Nintendo Switch console or game. If your guide also needs clean screenshots of web pages, one GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. There are 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

The computer does not recognize the Switch
Check that the USB cable supports data, not charging alone, and connect directly. For Windows, select the Switch device and look for Nintendo Switch > Album. On a non-Windows computer, MTP-compatible software may be needed, but Nintendo does not guarantee or support that software.
You cannot delete captures from the computer
That is expected: the USB computer-copy route does not support write-back or console-side deletion. Use Album or the console’s data-management settings when you want to delete captures.
