Start the new foldable’s setup and choose the option to copy data from an iPhone or iPad. Follow the transfer method shown on your model: it may offer QR-code pairing, a cable, or supported wireless transfer. Galaxy foldables use Samsung Smart Switch. Before removing your iPhone’s SIM, turn off iMessage; some data, including iCloud Photos, needs separate handling.
How do I transfer data from my iPhone to my Android phone?
Use the new foldable’s initial setup flow. The available screens and transfer options vary by manufacturer, device, and software version, so follow the prompts on your particular phone rather than expecting every Android foldable to work the same way. Google’s iPhone-to-Android transfer instructions describe the supported options and data categories.
Prepare both phones
- Charge both phones and keep them unlocked and nearby.
- Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi and make sure you can unlock it when prompted.
- Check that the foldable has enough available storage for the data you want to move.
- Allow time for the process. Google says transfers usually take less than 30 minutes but can take up to a few hours when there is a lot of data; that is a general estimate, not a guarantee for an individual transfer.
Google says, “Both devices must be connected to each other for the entire transfer process.” Keep them connected until the transfer finishes.
Start the transfer during setup
- Turn on the foldable and proceed through its initial setup screens.
- When asked whether you want to copy data, choose the option for an iPhone or iPad.
- If the foldable displays a QR code, scan it with the iPhone camera and follow the pairing prompts. If it does not, use the cable or wireless method the phone offers.
- Review the categories selected for transfer, then keep both devices connected until setup reports completion.
Only certain Android devices support QR pairing. If you do not see a QR code, that does not necessarily mean transfer is unavailable.

Do I need a cable to transfer from iPhone to Android?
Not always. Supported devices can offer wireless transfer, but a cable is useful when the setup flow requires it or when you want the broader category coverage Google lists for classic cable transfer. Google’s comparison shows classic wireless supports fewer categories than classic cable; its upgraded transfer flow can support additional categories on eligible devices. Availability and results depend on the model and software version.

For a wired connection, use the iPhone charging cable if it fits both phones. If it does not, Google says an adapter may be needed. A USB-C-to-Lightning cable is one option for a Lightning-equipped iPhone connecting to a USB-C foldable; a USB-C iPhone needs a compatible USB-C cable. Do not buy a cable if the one you already have fits.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and other Galaxy foldables
On a Galaxy foldable, use Smart Switch and follow the transfer choices shown during setup. Samsung’s newer upgraded iOS-to-Galaxy process requires Android 17 or later or iOS 26.6 or later and excludes mainland China, according to its current guidance. Samsung also describes an earlier Smart Switch route for Galaxy devices below Android 17. Because support depends on software version, region, and method, check the current Samsung Smart Switch instructions rather than assuming a particular route is available.
How do I get my texts after switching from iPhone to Android?
Before removing the SIM from the iPhone, turn off iMessage: open Settings > Messages and switch off iMessage. Otherwise, Google warns that SMS/MMS messages may continue going to the old iPhone instead of the new Android phone. Some existing iPhone group chats may need to be restarted as a new group.

If you already removed the SIM or no longer have the iPhone, use Apple’s iMessage deregistration page. If messages still do not arrive, Google advises checking that iMessage is off on all iOS devices associated with your number and confirming the SIM or eSIM is active.
How do I move iCloud photos to Android?
Do not assume iCloud Photos will be included in the standard phone-to-phone transfer. Google lists iCloud-stored photos and videos among the items that do not transfer through the described standard flow, and provides a separate iCloud Photos transfer process. Some eligible upgraded transfers may support certain iCloud-stored items, but what appears depends on the device and flow.

After the transfer, check photos and videos on the foldable before wiping or trading in the iPhone. If you run short of storage during setup, Google’s troubleshooting guidance suggests deselecting large photo and video categories or using a separate Google Photos sync route.

For apps, install an available Android version from Google Play. Paid purchases or subscriptions may require contacting the app developer; do not assume an iPhone purchase will carry over. App data transfers only where the app developer permits it and the device’s transfer flow supports it.
What should I check after setup?
Before erasing or trading in the iPhone, check the content you depend on and open key apps on the foldable. At minimum, verify messages, photos, videos, and contacts, then check any app-specific data you need. Follow any separate on-screen prompt for WhatsApp: Samsung says WhatsApp history must be transferred before signing in on the new phone, and WhatsApp migration is not automatic in every transfer flow.

What if the transfer option or connection fails?
- No QR code appears: Use the cable or wireless instructions offered by the foldable. QR pairing is available only on certain Android devices.
- QR scan or wireless connection fails: Confirm the iPhone has Wi-Fi and internet access, check that the transfer app has camera permission, and try a cable if wireless is unavailable or unreliable.
- There is not enough space: Deselect large photo and video categories or use a separate Google Photos sync route.
- You skipped transfer during setup: Some devices offer a “Finish setting up” route or a copy-data option under Settings > Accounts & backup. Availability varies; some phones may require returning to setup or resetting the device.
- Texts do not arrive: Turn off iMessage on all iOS devices associated with your number and confirm the SIM or eSIM is active.
