Both offer standard seats at $20 per user per month with annual billing or $25 month to month, and premium seats at $100 annually or $125 monthly. For a startup, the choice is less about a listed price advantage and more about which tools, usage limits, integrations, and administrative controls fit its work. Prices and features can change, so check the vendors’ official pages when you are ready to buy.
How much do the plans cost for a startup?
Both plans require at least two seats. The figures below are the vendors’ published U.S.-dollar list prices; local pricing may differ, and the listed seat price does not determine a startup’s final bill.

Anthropic permits mixing Standard and Premium seats, and says limits apply per member. OpenAI describes Premium as providing more usage than Standard. For either plan, estimate the seat mix rather than assuming everyone needs the higher tier. ChatGPT Business API platform usage is billed separately from the workspace subscription.
Included usage is not unlimited. Anthropic says usage credits can allow continued work after included limits; OpenAI also describes plan usage limits. Because a high-usage team may incur costs beyond its seats, assess the tasks each person expects to run and check each provider’s current limit and overage rules before committing. Which workflows does each workspace cover?
The vendors describe overlapping but differently packaged tools. These are feature descriptions, not independent evidence that one service performs better; choose based on the work your team will actually do.

Make a short list of the workflows that matter—such as coding assistance, searching company information, connecting existing services, or creating documents—and verify the current feature details for those workflows on the official plan pages. What usage limits and extra charges should you plan for?
Do not treat the monthly seat price as a complete cost estimate if staff will use the tools heavily. Anthropic states that Team limits are per member and that usage credits can support continued work after included limits. OpenAI says Premium includes more usage than Standard, and its API platform usage is separate from the Business workspace subscription. These descriptions do not give a single comparable allowance for every startup workflow.
- List expected tasks by role, including coding, document work, and company-information searches.
- Check current per-user limits and how each plan handles reaching them before selecting Standard or Premium seats.
- Include possible credits or other usage charges in your budget, and account separately for API usage if the team plans to use OpenAI’s API.

Do the plans meet your startup’s security and administration needs?
Both vendors say business workspace content is not used for model training by default. OpenAI states, “OpenAI does not train on your workspace data.” Anthropic’s pricing page says, “No model training on your content by default.” These are provider statements, not proof that the plans have identical security controls or contractual terms.
Both plan descriptions include SSO and centralized administration. The tier distinction matters if your startup needs more specialized controls: OpenAI’s comparison lists SCIM and data residency as unavailable in Business, while Anthropic places SCIM and custom data retention among Enterprise controls. If those controls, or particular contractual assurances, are requirements, review current vendor documentation and confirm the appropriate plan with the provider rather than assuming a business-plan feature covers them. How should a startup decide?
- Compare the tools against real work. Identify which listed features—such as Claude Code or Codex, organization search or company knowledge, connectors, and document tools—map to tasks your team expects to perform.
- Price the seat mix. Count at least two seats, decide who needs Standard or Premium, and compare annual billing with monthly billing using the published prices for your region.
- Budget for usage beyond seats. Check current limits and any credits or additional usage charges against the team’s expected workload; keep API costs separate where applicable.
- Verify required controls. Match SSO and administrative needs to the plan, then check whether your requirements include SCIM, custom retention, or data residency.
- Recheck before purchase. Vendor features, limits, and prices can change; confirm the terms on the official pages and applicable contractual documentation.
There is no universal winner established by these plan descriptions. Claude Team may fit a startup whose workflows align with its listed tools and administration; ChatGPT Business may fit one that prefers its listed ChatGPT, Codex, workspace-agent, and company-knowledge offering. The better choice depends on the startup’s actual work, projected use, and required controls—not on a published U.S.-dollar seat-price difference.
