Sometimes. Friends on different platforms can join the same racing game party only if that game supports cross-play for their specific platform combination and online mode. Check the game’s official compatibility details and cross-play settings before buying or sending an invite.
What determines whether cross-platform play works?
A game appearing on multiple systems does not automatically mean players on those systems can race together. Confirm the exact game, platform pair, mode, and settings. Cross-play support can differ by mode or edition, and game compatibility may change.
- Platforms: Check that the game explicitly includes both systems your group uses.
- Mode: Confirm cross-play is available in the mode you want to play.
- Settings and invites: Make sure cross-play is enabled if required, then use the game’s documented social, party, or crew invitation flow.
- Online access: Check whether your console requires an active online subscription for that game’s multiplayer.

How to invite friends across platforms
F1 25
- Open the game’s Settings and check that cross-play is enabled. EA says that with cross-play off, matchmaking is limited to players on the same platform.
- Choose one of the modes EA lists as supporting cross-play: F1 World, Ranked, Unranked, Local Multiplayer, Leagues, or Custom Lobbies.
- Use the game’s multiplayer or lobby invitation options to bring friends into the session.
EA defines cross-play as letting players compete with friends and others on a different platform. See EA Help’s F1 25 instructions for its current details.
The Crew Motorfest
- Open the menu and choose Crew Management.
- Invite your friend to join your crew and have them accept.
- Start an activity with the crew; Ubisoft says accepted crew members are invited into activities started by that crew.
This is the procedure in Ubisoft’s Motorfest starting guide. Ubisoft’s current Motorfest multiplayer help page says an active console online subscription may be needed for online multiplayer modes. Requirements depend on the game and platform, so check the applicable platform’s current rules.

Forza Horizon 5
Forza confirms cross-play for Xbox consoles, PC, and PS5, but the cited announcement does not specify the current invite steps. Follow the in-game social or convoy instructions rather than assuming that another game’s invitation process applies.
Cross-play is not the same as cross-progression
Cross-play lets people on different platforms play together. Cross-progression concerns carrying eligible progress between platforms. Ubisoft describes Motorfest’s cross-progression separately and says to use the same Ubisoft account when playing on a different platform; some in-game content is shared across platforms. Check before choosing a game
- Look up the exact platform combination, including console generation where specified.
- Verify that cross-play includes the mode your group wants to play.
- Check whether the game requires cross-play to be switched on and how it handles friend invitations.
- Confirm any console online subscription requirement.
- If you also want saves or eligible content to carry between systems, check cross-progression separately.
