You can stream GTA 5 from your own gaming PC to a browser with a separate community project such as Moonlight-Web, which describes browser streaming over WebRTC. Official Moonlight does not offer a pure browser client. For the established self-hosted route, Sunshine runs on your PC and Moonlight runs as a native client on the receiving device; Moonlight-Web is a different project, not an official Moonlight product.
Can you play GTA 5 in a browser from your PC?
Yes, using a browser-oriented streaming project such as Moonlight-Web. It describes a browser interface and WebRTC streaming, and advertises gamepad input. Its compatibility, features, and remote-access setup are separate from the official Moonlight apps, so check the project’s current documentation for your browser and setup.
Official Moonlight does not provide a pure web client. Its FAQ explains that the GameStream protocol uses raw TCP and UDP sockets unavailable to web browsers, and notes that browser clients have limitations compared with native apps. Sunshine’s browser-based page is for configuring the host; it is not itself a browser game-streaming client.
Choose a streaming route

Choose Moonlight-Web if a browser is essential and you are comfortable setting up and maintaining a separate community project. Choose Sunshine with a native Moonlight client if you prefer the documented host/client workflow. Browser input and latency may differ from a native client; neither route guarantees console-like responsiveness or a particular controller experience.

Set up your PC and test locally first
- Confirm the host can run the game. Install GTA 5 on the PC you plan to stream from, and keep that PC available to render the game while you play remotely. This is the basic requirement of streaming from your own PC, not a GTA 5-specific compatibility finding.
- Install Sunshine on the gaming PC. Follow the Sunshine documentation to install the host and open its local, browser-based configuration interface. Configure its credentials and pairing as directed.
- Pair on your home network. Install Moonlight on the receiving device and pair it with Sunshine over the same local network. The Moonlight setup guide recommends testing locally before trying an internet connection.
- Make GTA 5 available as an app. If the game is not listed automatically, Sunshine can be configured to launch an app using its executable or launcher. Moonlight’s guide says games and apps can be added manually; it does not establish GTA 5-specific compatibility with Moonlight-Web or every launcher and operating system.
- Check the stream and controls at home. Try the picture, keyboard and mouse, and any controller you plan to use before troubleshooting remote access. Moonlight-Web advertises browser gamepad input, but the available documentation does not establish a controller compatibility matrix.
Try browser streaming and remote access
Once the host and game work locally, follow Moonlight-Web’s current project instructions to connect through its browser interface. The project describes browser-to-PC streaming over WebRTC. Do not assume that pairing Moonlight with Sunshine automatically makes the Sunshine configuration page a remote browser client.
For a stream from outside your home, the Moonlight setup guide gives 5 Mbps or higher upload speed as guidance. That is a baseline from the guide, not a guarantee of smooth play or a complete recommendation for every resolution and frame rate. Moonlight-Web identifies disabled UPnP, CGNAT or double NAT, and port conflicts as possible remote-access blockers; consult its current network instructions if a connection fails.

Keep host credentials private and do not expose Sunshine’s configuration interface publicly. Use the access controls and connection method documented by the project you choose.

What to check when it does not work
- The browser cannot connect: Confirm that you are following Moonlight-Web’s instructions, rather than trying to use Sunshine’s configuration UI as the streaming client. For remote access, check the project’s listed UPnP, NAT, and port-conflict caveats.
- The game does not appear: Add the game or its launcher as a Sunshine app and verify that it launches locally on the host. Manual app configuration is general Sunshine functionality, not proof of GTA 5 compatibility in every setup.
- Controls or response feel different: Test keyboard/mouse or gamepad input on the local network first. Browser streaming can have different input and latency characteristics from a native client, and specific controller behavior is not established here.
- Local play works but remote play does not: Check upload capacity and the remote-network conditions identified by Moonlight-Web. The guide’s 5 Mbps figure is only a baseline; it does not promise a particular stream quality.
