There is no universal player limit for a racing game party. The maximum depends on the game, platform, and mode: an online race, a private group, local wireless session, LAN game, or multiplayer on one console can each have a different capacity. Check the specific mode before inviting everyone—the overall online maximum may not be the limit for the event you want to play.
What does a racing game’s player limit actually mean?
“Party size” can refer to several different things: how many people can share a console, join a private group, enter one race, or play together online. Those numbers are not interchangeable. A game might support more people across an online session than it allows in a particular event, and local multiplayer can have a different cap again.
When checking a limit, match the number to the exact game, platform, and mode. Also check whether the figure is per console or for the whole session, and whether the mode requires a subscription or game progression.
Official player limits in four racing games

How to check whether your whole group can play
- Choose the exact mode. Look for the capacity of the race or activity you intend to play, rather than relying on a general online-player figure.
- Confirm how the count is measured. Check whether it means players in one event, one online session, or a group spread across multiple consoles. Note any per-console cap.
- Check your platform. A game may support different local counts on different consoles; Gran Turismo 7, for example, lists four local players on PS5 and two on PS4.
- Check access requirements. Some online modes require a platform subscription, and some games gate multiplayer modes behind introductory progress.
- Verify cross-play for the specific game. The cited Ubisoft guide establishes cross-play for The Crew Motorfest; that should not be assumed for other racing games. Ubisoft’s Motorfest guide.
Why the biggest number may not fit your group
Online population, party capacity, and race capacity answer different questions. The Crew Motorfest illustrates the distinction: Ubisoft lists up to 32 online players overall, while Grand Race supports up to 28. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe likewise publishes separate figures for online, local wireless, and LAN play. Use the figure for the exact activity and connection type you plan to use, not simply the largest number on the game page.

The examples here are game-specific official figures, not an industry-wide average. They do not establish the private-party limit for every current racing game, so check the game’s support page or mode details when organizing a larger group.
