A game installation, a console save, a PlayStation Plus cloud save, account activity, information shared with an authorized app, and a game publisher’s online records are separate categories. Choose the control that matches where the data is stored: deleting a local save does not by itself delete a cloud copy or publisher-held progression.
First identify the data you want to review or remove

Delete a saved game on PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), matching the version of the game whose save you want to manage.
- Select Upload or Delete from Console Storage.
- Choose the game and save files, then confirm deletion.
Sony documents this as the console-storage save-management flow in its PS5 storage guide. If the same title has PS4 and PS5 versions, check the matching saved-data category; deleting one version’s save does not establish that the other version’s save was removed.
Delete saved data on PS4
- Open Settings > Application Saved Data Management.
- Choose where the save is stored: System Storage, Online Storage, or USB Storage.
- Select Delete, then choose a game and the files to remove. You can select Select All if that is what you intend.
- Select Delete and confirm with OK.
If you want to retain progress before removing a local PS4 save, copy it first: from Application Saved Data Management, select Saved Data in System Storage, then choose Copy to USB Storage Device and select the save files. Confirm the correct files are on the USB device before deleting the console copy. Sony documents PS4 saved-data management and USB copying in its PS4 storage guide.

Check cloud saves separately
Console storage and PlayStation Plus cloud storage are separate locations. If your goal is to remove the save from cloud storage too, use the cloud-management controls rather than assuming that deleting the console copy removed both.
- On PS5, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4).
- Select Download or Delete from Cloud Storage, then choose Delete.
- Select the relevant saved data and confirm.
Sony’s PlayStation Plus cloud-storage guide identifies cloud storage as a PlayStation Plus feature. That Canada support page states limits of up to 100 GB each for PS5 and PS4 saved data, and no more than 1,000 PS4 save files; limits may vary by region or change over time.

Remove an installed game without confusing it with a save
To remove an installation or selected game content on PS5, open Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps, choose the title, and select what to remove. Sony notes that Customize may appear beside a title to manage portions of installed data. This is an installation control, not a saved-data deletion control; purchased games can be downloaded again from your library. See Sony’s PS5 storage instructions.
Review Sony account information and activity visibility
Request a copy of personal information
Sign in to Account Management, open Privacy Settings, then select Data Access Requests > Request Data. Sony says the second email can take up to seven days, and that the download remains available for seven days after the notification email. This provides a copy of key personal information; it is not a complete inventory of every game server’s records and does not delete anything. See Sony’s Data Access request instructions.

Control what other players can see
PlayStation privacy settings include controls for online status, currently played games, and gaming history. Use the settings described in Sony’s privacy guide to adjust visibility. Hiding activity changes its audience; it does not remove a save from console or cloud storage.
Review authorized apps
In Account Management > Authorized Apps, review services linked to your account and use Unlink for an app you no longer want authorized. Sony says an authorized app may receive some account information, including online status and gameplay information. Unlinking is an access control going forward; for information already received by the service, consult that third party’s privacy or account-deletion process. See Sony’s authorized-app instructions.

Ask the game publisher about online progression or profile data
A console save deletion does not establish that online progression, multiplayer statistics, or a publisher account has been removed. Sony’s US Terms of Service, marked March 2025, say additional terms may apply, including those of a game publisher or service provider. Because the game is not specified, there is no universal publisher-side deletion path to give. Check the game’s official account settings and privacy notice, or contact its publisher’s support team to ask how to access or delete the records associated with your account.

Avoid a broader erase than you intend
- Before deleting a save, check whether another copy exists in cloud or USB storage and whether you want to keep your progress.
- Use targeted saved-data controls to remove one game’s save; do not use a factory reset as a routine save-deletion method.
- Sony distinguishes restoring default settings—which does not affect user or game data—from resetting a PS5 or initializing a PS4, which deletes user and game data and cannot be undone. Follow Sony’s reset and restore guidance only if you intend that broader erase.
- A USB backup path is documented for PS4 saves; it is not a general-purpose way to preserve PS5 saves or publisher-held online data.
