Choose the Pixel Buds Pro 2 if you want Google’s newer noise-control features and higher stated battery life. The original Pixel Buds Pro is worth considering only if you find it at a meaningfully lower current price and are comfortable giving up Pro 2’s Adaptive mode and Dynamic ANC. These are specification-based differences, not a verdict on which earbuds sound or fit better.
Battery life: Pro 2 has higher Google estimates
Google’s published figures give the Pixel Buds Pro 2 an edge in both listening-time estimates. They are maximum estimates, not guaranteed runtimes: Google says actual battery life varies with the device, enabled features, usage, environment, and other factors. Google’s specifications for both models list:
| Listening mode | Pixel Buds Pro | Pixel Buds Pro 2 |
|---|---|---|
| ANC on, earbuds | Up to 7 hours | Up to 8 hours |
| ANC on, with case | Up to 20 hours | Up to 30 hours |
| ANC off, earbuds | Up to 11 hours | Up to 12 hours |
| ANC off, with case | Up to 31 hours | Up to 48 hours |
If you often use noise cancellation or rely on the charging case to extend time between charges, the Pro 2’s published estimates are more favorable. Your results may differ from these figures.
Noise control: Pro 2 adds Adaptive mode and Dynamic ANC
Both models offer active noise cancellation (ANC) and Transparency mode, which lets outside sound through. Google also lists Conversation Detection for both. The Pro 2 adds Adaptive mode and Dynamic ANC, features Google identifies as exclusive to that model. Google’s noise-control guidance explains the available modes.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That makes Pro 2 the more feature-rich option if you want its newer adaptive noise-control choices. The specifications alone do not establish which model cancels noise more effectively in real-world use.
Bluetooth and compatibility: pairing is not the same as full feature access
Both earbuds can be used with Bluetooth devices, but Google lists different Bluetooth versions: 5.0 for the original Pro and 5.4 for Pro 2. For Pro 2, Google says pairing works with Bluetooth 4.0 or newer devices, including iOS devices, tablets, and laptops. Google’s US Store specifications also state that full feature access requires a Google Account, an internet connection, and a companion Android phone running Android 6.0 or newer.

Water resistance: Pro 2 has published IP ratings
Google rates the Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds IP54 and the charging case IPX4 in its US Store specifications. A directly comparable rating for the original Pixel Buds Pro is not established in the cited specifications, so these figures do not support a claim that Pro 2 has a water-resistance advantage over the original.
