Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) on October 6, 2026, and the combined company is named Skydance. WBD brands including Warner Bros., HBO, HBO Max, CNN and its cable networks are part of the combined portfolio—but the closing announcement does not say which will keep their names, merge, change distribution or close. As of October 7, 2026, there is no confirmed brand-by-brand integration timetable.
What changed when the acquisition closed?
Skydance announced that it completed the acquisition on October 6, 2026. WBD shares ceased trading on Nasdaq that day, and the combined company’s shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SKYD. The company describes the combined portfolio as spanning two film studios, two global streaming services, television networks, news, sports and a large content library. Skydance’s closing announcement confirms the transaction and portfolio, not a final operating plan for every brand.
That distinction matters: a brand’s inclusion in the new company’s portfolio establishes ownership, not whether the brand will continue unchanged or how it will be managed. The announcement lists Warner Bros., HBO, HBO Max, CNN, TNT Sports, Cartoon Network, Discovery, Food Network, HGTV and other brands alongside Skydance and Paramount properties. It does not announce a specific rename, shutdown or merger for those WBD brands.
Will Warner Bros., HBO, CNN or Discovery keep their names?
The available closing announcement does not answer that question brand by brand. It establishes that these names and properties are included in the combined portfolio, but it gives no timetable or decision on renaming, combining or discontinuing them. It is therefore too early to say that any specific WBD brand will definitely stay as it is—or disappear.

The same uncertainty applies to distribution and operating structure. The announcement does not set out whether individual networks or studios will retain separate management, how their content will be distributed, or whether consumers will see changes to particular apps or services.
What is known about HBO Max and Paramount+?
Before the deal closed, Paramount’s February 2026 merger announcement described a proposed direct-to-consumer strategy that would combine Paramount+, HBO Max and Pluto TV, while preserving iconic brands with independent creative leadership. That was a pre-close plan, not confirmation of the final post-acquisition arrangement. Paramount’s February 2026 announcement
Skydance’s October 6 closing announcement describes two global streaming services but does not identify a final service name, say whether HBO Max and Paramount+ will combine, or provide a schedule. It also does not specify app availability, pricing, bundles, content-library access or regional availability. Those details remain open rather than announced changes.
Is WBD still splitting into two companies?
No. WBD’s June 2025 proposal to separate into Streaming & Studios and Global Networks is no longer the current corporate outcome now that the acquisition has closed. Under that proposal, Streaming & Studios would have included Warner Bros., DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max; Global Networks would have included CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery, Discovery+ and Bleacher Report. WBD later said in a filing that it pursued a different path. The acquisition has since closed, so the proposed company name Discovery Global and the planned split should be treated as historical, not as the post-acquisition structure. WBD’s later filing
What targets did Skydance announce?
The closing announcement included company targets for output and cost synergies. They are stated goals, not results already achieved, and the release does not connect them to a particular brand’s future.

| Skydance’s stated target in its 2026 closing announcement | What it means |
|---|---|
| A minimum of 30 theatrical films annually | A stated annual production target, not a reported count of films released. |
| More than 180 television shows and series | A stated output target, not a reported production result. |
| At least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years | A target for annualized savings or efficiencies at run rate; it is not a claim that those savings have already been achieved. |
Skydance also described the combined business as having two film studios, two global streaming services, CBS and HBO, cable networks, CBS News and CNN, live sports and an extensive content library. Those portfolio descriptions and corporate targets do not, by themselves, identify which WBD brands will be integrated or retained independently. Skydance’s closing announcement

For a practical update on the services or networks you use, look for an official announcement that names the affected brand and specifies what changes, when they take effect and where they apply. A portfolio list or broad integration goal is not a substitute for those details.
Best Value
- For streaming, check whether the company explicitly states that HBO Max, Paramount+ or Pluto TV will remain separate or combine, and whether it gives a service name, launch date or regional scope.
- For a channel, studio or content brand, look for confirmation of a name change, closure, distribution change or operating arrangement rather than inferring one from the ownership change.
- For announced output or synergy figures, distinguish future targets from completed results.
As of October 7, 2026, the transaction and combined-company name are confirmed; a brand-by-brand integration plan is not.
