To connect a Nintendo Switch 2 to a TV, use the Switch 2 dock, the NGN-01 AC adapter, and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Connect the dock to power and the TV, seat the console with its screen facing the dock’s front, then select the dock’s HDMI input on the TV. If there’s no picture, check the input and direct connections first, then isolate the cable, port, TV, dock, or console.
Connect Switch 2 to your TV
Nintendo’s TV setup routes video through the Switch 2 dock and HDMI. The console’s screen turns off while it is docked.
- Open the cover on the back of the Switch 2 dock.
- Connect the Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, to the dock’s AC adapter port and plug it into a wall outlet.
- Connect an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable to the dock’s HDMI port and to an HDMI port on your TV or monitor.
- Close the dock’s back cover. If you plan to use the Joy-Con 2 controllers wirelessly, remove them from the console.
- Place the console in the dock with its screen facing the same direction as the dock’s front panel.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input connected to the dock.
Use the Switch 2 dock and its specified power adapter for TV mode. Nintendo’s TV connection instructions identify the required equipment and setup orientation.
Fix a blank screen or “No signal” message
Work through these checks in order. Keep the connections simple while troubleshooting so you can identify which part is causing the problem.

1. Check the TV input and direct connections
- Confirm the TV is set to the HDMI input used by the dock.
- Connect the dock’s AC adapter directly to a wall outlet and the HDMI cable directly from the dock to the TV.
- Temporarily remove HDMI splitters, sound bars, receivers, home-theater systems, and video adapters from the connection path.
2. Reseat the console and check the dock
- Remove and reseat the console with its screen facing the dock’s front panel.
- Remove a protective case if it prevents the console from sitting correctly in the dock.
- Check that the dock and cable connections are secure and that the adapter and cables show no visible damage.
3. Swap one connection at a time
Try a different HDMI port on the TV, then a different Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. If possible, test the console with another TV or a known-working Switch 2 dock. Changing one item at a time helps distinguish a TV input or cable issue from a dock or console issue. Nintendo also advises checking the TV’s HDMI settings; its US no-video guidance suggests trying with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) turned off.
If these checks do not restore the picture, follow Nintendo’s blank-screen and no-image troubleshooting. Nintendo directs users to arrange service for the dock and/or console when the documented checks do not resolve the issue.

Resolve a “Could not connect to the TV” or adapter message
Nintendo’s US troubleshooting guidance says an adapter other than the Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, can trigger a message asking for the supplied adapter. Confirm the dock is Switch 2 model BEE-005, then reset the connections and check for updates.
- Turn off the TV and disconnect the cables from the dock.
- Unplug the AC adapter from both the wall outlet and the dock for at least 30 seconds. Inspect the adapter and its cable for damage.
- Check that the dock is model BEE-005 and that you are using the Switch 2 NGN-01 adapter.
- Check for a console system update. To check dock firmware, open System Settings > System > Dock Update.
- Reconnect the adapter directly to a wall outlet and connect HDMI directly from the dock to the TV.
- Dock the console in the correct orientation and select the matching HDMI input on the TV.
If the message remains, test with another Switch 2 adapter if one is available. If the problem persists, arrange service. See Nintendo’s adapter-error troubleshooting.

Which original Switch accessories work with Switch 2 TV mode?
The original Switch dock and its HDMI cable are not suitable for Switch 2 TV mode. The original Switch AC adapter, model HAC-002, can charge a Switch 2 when plugged directly into the console, but it cannot power the Switch 2 dock for TV output. Nintendo states that “The Nintendo Switch dock is not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” See its accessory compatibility information.
For a missing or confirmed faulty cable, use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Consider replacing a dock or NGN-01 adapter only if it is missing or troubleshooting points to that accessory as faulty; a replacement is not automatically needed when the included equipment is correctly connected and working.

Using an alternative dock power adapter
Nintendo of America’s no-video guidance says an alternative adapter and cable for the dock can supply at least 54W. Treat that as US Nintendo guidance, not a universal regional rule. Nintendo’s UK guidance says to consult the console’s power requirements and use a compatible adapter approved for the country. Check the instructions and requirements for your region before using an alternative power source.
