The wireless Razer Wolverine V4 Pro is the more feature-forward choice if you want removable back buttons, extra bumpers, adjustable trigger actuation and high-rate PC polling. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is the stronger fit if you value adjustable stick tension, four paddles, interchangeable controls and a clearly stated battery estimate of up to 40 hours. This comparison means the wireless V4 Pro—not Razer’s separately announced wired Wolverine V4 Tournament Edition.
What is different about these two controllers?
Razer announced two Wolverine V4 models on October 6, 2026: the wireless Wolverine V4 Pro and a wired Tournament Edition. They have different connection profiles, so “Wolverine V4” alone does not identify one controller. The comparison below focuses on the V4 Pro.
The Elite Series 2 also comes in different bundles. Microsoft’s full Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 package includes more interchangeable components and a charging dock than the Core package. Check the exact bundle when comparing what is in the box or its price; the two packages are not equivalent.
Feature comparison
| Feature | Razer Wolverine V4 Pro | Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Competitive controls | Four removable magnetic back buttons, two additional claw-grip bumpers, trigger locks and adjustable trigger actuation; four onboard profiles. Razer product page | Four paddles, shorter hair-trigger locks, interchangeable stick tops and D-pad; up to three custom profiles plus a default. Xbox product page |
| Stick tuning | Razer describes the sticks as high-resolution capacitive/contactless in its main product copy; its FAQ calls them Hall Effect. The official page is inconsistent about the technology label. Razer says its sensors and 16-bit ADC register approximately 3,000 steps of movement. Razer product page | Manually adjustable stick tension across three settings, with sensitivity curves adjustable in the Xbox Accessories app. Xbox product page |
| Polling and response claims | Razer claims up to 8,000 Hz polling on PC and up to 250 Hz connectivity on Xbox Series X|S. Its newsroom footnote says the 8,000 Hz measurement used a PC and Razer Hyper Wireless dongle. Razer’s newsroom claims sub-1 ms response, while its product page says sub-2 ms. These are manufacturer claims, not a verified comparison. Razer product page · Razer newsroom announcement | The Xbox product page does not publish a directly comparable polling-rate or latency figure. Xbox product page |
| Battery estimate | Razer’s product page gives two figures for the V4 Pro: up to 27 hours in a feature section and up to 40 hours in its FAQ. The discrepancy is unresolved. Razer product page | Up to 40 hours per charge, according to Xbox; actual life varies with use and other factors. Microsoft says it tested with preproduction units. Xbox product page |

Which controller’s controls suit your play style?
Choose the Wolverine V4 Pro for more back-control options
The V4 Pro combines four removable magnetic back buttons with two extra bumpers positioned for claw-grip access. That gives you more potential inputs without relying only on the back buttons. It may suit players who want to map frequent actions away from the face buttons and tailor the controller around a specific grip.

- 4 MOUSE CLICK BACK BUTTONS & 2 CLAW GRIP BUMPERS — Enjoy the same ultra-responsive actuation found in Razer's top gaming mice with 4 buttons built into the controller’s ergonomic, rubberized handles—topped with 2 claw grip bumpers for even more control
- PRO HYPERTRIGGERS — Set the triggers for instant actuation with zero travel time or ultra precise analog control—be fully immersed in the action and feel every trigger pull with integrated haptic vibrations
- HALL EFFECT PRECISION THUMBSTICKS — Experience analog thumbsticks that are not only more accurate than traditional models but are smoother, lighter, and more durable thanks to their anti-friction rings and pro grade materials
- HYPERSPEED WIRELESS — Delivering an ultra-low latency 2.4 GHz connection via its USB Type A dongle, experience fast, reliable performance that meets the demands of the most intense competitive players on Xbox and PC
- RAZER MECHA-TACTILE ACTION BUTTONS & 8-WAY FLOATING D-PAD — By combining the speed of microswitches with the cushioned comfort of a rubber membrane, compete with quicker inputs that feel just as comfortable to press
Razer also emphasizes adjustable trigger actuation. That is a distinct advantage if you want to tune trigger travel, but it is not the same kind of adjustment as changing stick tension.
Choose the Elite Series 2 for adjustable stick tension
The Elite’s three manual stick-tension settings let you change how much resistance the sticks provide. Its sensitivity curves add another software-based control option. If a preferred stick feel matters more to you than extra bumpers or trigger-actuation choices, the Elite offers the more directly specified adjustment.

- 8K HZ HYPERPOLLING TECHNOLOGY — Experience ultra responsive performance with a true 8000 Hz polling rate; harness its blistering speed in wired or wireless mode and make every millisecond count
- TMR THUMBSTICKS WITH SWAPPABLE CAPS — Fine-tuned for the most precise in-game control, dominate with laser-sharp aim using anti-drift magnetic TMR thumbsticks that have evolved beyond typical Hall Effect designs
- RAZER’S LIGHTEST WIRELESS ESPORTS CONTROLLER — Experience zero hand fatigue with a form factor designed and refined with top esports players
- 4 MOUSE CLICK BACK BUTTONS & 2 CLAW GRIP BUMPER — Enjoy the same ultra-responsive actuation found in Razer's top gaming mice with 4 buttons built into the controller’s ergonomic, rubberized handles—topped with 2 claw grip bumpers for even more control
- PRO HYPERTRIGGERS — Always be first to fire with lightning fast mouse clicks found in our top gaming mice, or enable full analog control for enhanced precision—all with a flick of a switch
Both controllers offer four rear controls in their main layouts—Razer’s four removable buttons and Xbox’s four paddles—but the V4 Pro adds two extra bumpers. A higher count does not automatically make a layout faster: reach, grip and comfort determine whether those controls help or get in the way.
Does the V4 Pro’s polling rate make it better for competitive play?
Not on the published figures alone. Razer advertises up to 8,000 Hz polling on PC, but its newsroom specifies that the measurement used a PC with the Razer Hyper Wireless dongle. Its same announcement gives up to 250 Hz connectivity on Xbox Series X|S. Those platform-specific claims should not be collapsed into one number or treated as a result that applies equally on Xbox and PC.

- HYPERSPEED WIRELESS: Delivers an ultra-fast 2.4GHz wireless connection via its included USB Type A dongle and ensures seamless performance that meets the demands of competitive gaming on PS5 consoles and PC
- MECHA-TACTILE ACTION BUTTONS: With a shorter actuation distance for quicker button presses and improved tactility to feel every input, the controller brings a whole new level of speed and consistency to gameplay
- 8-WAY MICROSWITCH D-PAD: Feel and hear every single directional press as microswitches are engaged, enabling accurate and intentional moves when doing intricate combos
- HYPERTRIGGER: Always be first to fire with triggers that can switch from measured, full-range pulls to lightning-quick clicks
- 6 REMAPPABLE BUTTONS: Map 4 extra triggers and 2 custom bumpers to preferred commands
The Elite Series 2 page does not give a directly comparable polling-rate or latency figure. That absence is not evidence that it is slower, and the available manufacturer specifications do not establish that the V4 Pro produces a measurable in-game advantage or makes a player more likely to win. Treat the Razer figures as technical claims, not independent head-to-head test results.

Xbox states that the Elite Series 2 lasts up to 40 hours per charge, with real-world life varying by use and other factors; its estimate is based on testing with preproduction units. Razer’s V4 Pro page gives both up to 27 hours and up to 40 hours for the same controller. Because Razer’s figures conflict, do not assume the longer number is a dependable comparison point.

For the Elite, compare the full Series 2 bundle against the Core only after accounting for the components you actually need. Xbox Canada lists suggested Canadian pricing of $229.99 for the full Series 2 and a Core starting at $159.99; these are regional Canadian suggested prices, not current U.S. prices. Prices and availability vary by region and retailer. Razer’s reviewed page does not establish a current price for the V4 Pro, so check the live listing and exact bundle where you plan to buy.

- Pick the Wolverine V4 Pro if you want removable magnetic back buttons, two extra claw-grip bumpers, configurable trigger actuation, or its PC-specific high-polling option—and you have confirmed its platform and connection behavior suit your setup.
- Pick the Elite Series 2 if adjustable stick tension, four paddles, interchangeable components, Xbox/Windows support and a manufacturer-stated battery estimate of up to 40 hours matter more to you. Confirm whether you are buying the full bundle or Core.
- Decide by fit, not a spec-sheet victory if both layouts meet your needs. The published specifications do not settle which controller feels better in your hands or prove a universal competitive advantage.
