Sony’s U.S. recommended retail prices, effective April 2, 2026, are $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro. The $250 comparison is with the standard PS5, not the less expensive Digital Edition. What does PS5 Pro add?
Sony positions PS5 Pro around three improvements in supported games: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), advanced ray tracing, and higher or more consistent frame rates. The company says compatible games can reach 60 fps or up to 120 fps with 4K output, ray tracing, and PSSR. PSSR and image quality
Sony describes PSSR as an AI library that analyzes game images as it upscales them. On March 16, 2026, Sony announced an upgraded PSSR rolling out through a system software update, saying it improves image stability and detail in supported titles. Games Sony named as examples of upgraded PSSR support include Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crimson Desert, Alan Wake 2, Control, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. Enhanced-game counts are not interchangeable
Sony’s current PS5 Pro page says more than 100 PS5 titles are enhanced. Separately, PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny said on February 27, 2026, that PSSR had been used to boost effective resolution in more than 50 PS5 Pro titles as of that announcement. Is the PS5 Pro worth the extra money?
It depends on whether the Pro’s supported-game upgrades matter in your setup. Sony describes the features, but those claims do not establish a uniform improvement in every game. No like-for-like independent benchmark is established here, so treat the decision as a choice about your priorities rather than a guaranteed performance uplift across your library.

Check disc-drive and accessory compatibility
Sony’s compatibility guide says a disc drive with cover and horizontal stand feet are compatible with PS5 Pro. It also says CFI-1000 and CFI-2000 PS5 console covers and the PS5 console base are not compatible.
