If you like Vampire Survivors for its escalating enemy crowds and build-making, start with 20 Minutes Till Dawn for hands-on aiming and firing, or Brotato for short waves, shop decisions, and local co-op. The platform evidence is different for each: the cited listings confirm 20 Minutes Till Dawn on PC and Nintendo Switch, while the cited Brotato listing confirms its Steam version.
Which game should you try first?
- Choose 20 Minutes Till Dawn if you want horde survival and run-based upgrades, but prefer actively aiming and firing rather than relying on automatic attacks.
- Choose Brotato if you want combat broken into short waves, purchases between rounds, or local co-op for up to four players.
20 Minutes Till Dawn: active aiming and survival builds
20 Minutes Till Dawn is the closer fit if the core appeal is surviving a growing horde while shaping a build. Its combat asks you to aim directionally and fire actively, so it is a more hands-on variation on the auto-attacking approach associated with Vampire Survivors. During a run, you collect experience and choose upgrades to combine weapons, runes, and abilities. Nintendo’s US listing frames the game around surviving for 20 minutes and says runs are designed for 10–20 minute sessions.
The game is listed for Nintendo Switch, with a release date of December 21, 2023. Nintendo also says it is supported on Switch 2, with behavior consistent with Switch. On PC, Steam lists a June 8, 2023 release; its description notes persistent progression through Souls and Runes, unlockable characters and weapons, and more than 50 possible upgrades during a run. Steam also lists Windows and macOS system requirements.
Brotato: short waves, shop choices, and couch co-op
Brotato changes the rhythm from continuous survival to brief, discrete rounds. Its Steam listing describes an arena shooter with runs under 30 minutes and waves lasting 20–90 seconds. Between waves, you can spend collected materials in a shop, while experience and materials gathered in combat feed the run’s progression.

What about Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor?
Steam’s 20 Minutes Till Dawn page presents a bundle that includes Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. That confirms a storefront bundle relationship, not that the games share the same mechanics. The listings cited here do not establish enough detail to compare its gameplay or confirm its console availability, so it is not included as a full recommendation.
