Start by identifying whether Monster Hunter Rise fails to launch or crashes during play, runs slowly, or has trouble connecting to other players. Then check your PC against the requirements and work through the relevant software, graphics, or network steps below. The right fix depends partly on whether you play through Steam or the Microsoft Store; none of these checks is a guaranteed fix for every PC.
First, identify the symptom and storefront
Note where the problem occurs: at launch, during a particular scene or gameplay, or while joining or inviting players. If more than one symptom is happening, troubleshoot each separately; a performance issue and a lobby connection issue can have different causes.
- Crashes or failure to launch: begin with the PC requirements, security software, drivers, graphics selection, and game files.
- Low FPS: check the requirements, graphics settings, laptop GPU selection, and power state.
- Multiplayer trouble: follow the Steam steps only for the Steam edition. Capcom provides a separate checklist for the Microsoft Store edition, including different port guidance.
Capcom’s English Steam troubleshooting guides were updated July 16, 2026 (general PC troubleshooting) and July 17, 2026 (network troubleshooting). Its Microsoft Store FAQ is a separate source. Storefront matters: do not apply the Microsoft Store port list as a universal Steam requirement.
Check whether your PC meets the Steam requirements
Steam lists the following PC specifications and performance targets. These are the storefront’s stated requirements, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee of the same frame rate on every machine.

Compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, and available storage with the listing. Capcom warns that falling below minimum requirements can result in poor frame rates or prevent the game from running. If your PC meets minimum but not recommended specifications, Capcom recommends lowering graphics settings. It also says some integrated graphics may work but are untested and unsupported.
Fix crashes or a game that will not launch
1. Check security software exceptions carefully
Capcom says antivirus software can sometimes flag the game executable by mistake. If you trust the installation and files, check whether your antivirus or firewall is blocking the game, then add an exception for the correct game and Steam files or folders if needed. Capcom’s default Steam paths are C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMonsterHunterRise and C:Program Files (x86)Steam; it also refers to Steam AppData under the Windows user’s Local AppData folder. If Steam is installed elsewhere, use the actual installation location. Do not exclude unrelated folders or files.

2. Try running Steam or the game as administrator
Capcom reports that some players have resolved launch problems by running Steam, or the game executable, as administrator. Treat this as a troubleshooting test rather than a setting that must always be enabled. If it makes no difference, return to normal permissions.
3. Update Windows and the graphics driver
Install available Windows updates and an up-to-date graphics driver, then test the game again. If routine updates do not help, Capcom’s guide discusses a clean graphics-driver installation. It mentions the third-party Display Driver Uninstaller tool as an option for experienced users, not as a required first step; avoid using driver-cleanup utilities unless you understand the procedure and can recover from driver problems.

4. Check which GPU and power profile the game is using
On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, make sure Monster Hunter Rise is assigned to the high-performance GPU in the graphics settings provided by your GPU vendor or Windows. Control-panel names and menus can change, so use the current interface for your hardware. Connect the laptop charger and check that its power profile is not restricting performance.
5. Check DirectX, media components, and installed files
Capcom recommends ensuring DirectX is up to date. If a crash or failure is associated with cutscenes or media playback, check whether your Windows edition needs the Media Feature Pack or relevant media codecs; this is particularly relevant to editions of Windows that do not include those components. On Steam, verify the installation by opening Library, right-clicking Monster Hunter Rise, choosing Properties, opening Installed Files, and selecting Verify integrity of game files. Steam will check the installation and replace files it finds missing or damaged.

6. Send useful details if the problem continues
Capcom asks users who still have problems to provide the game’s config.ini, a DxDiag.txt report, and their region or location. Include the exact error text and describe whether the issue occurs at launch, in a particular scene, or after changing a setting. Those details help distinguish a repeatable failure from a general report that the game crashes.
Improve low FPS without changing hardware first
- Compare your PC with the requirements. Use the Steam specifications above; falling below minimum can explain poor frame rate, while a system between minimum and recommended may need lower settings.
- Lower graphics settings. Capcom recommends doing this when a PC meets minimum but not recommended requirements. Steam’s stated minimum and recommended targets are 1080p/30fps on Low and Average settings, respectively; they are requirement notes, not measured guarantees.
- Check laptop GPU routing and power. Confirm the game uses the dedicated high-performance GPU, plug in the charger, and check that the power profile is not limiting performance.
- Update the graphics driver and Windows. Retest after updates before considering hardware changes.
Do not assume a new GPU is needed until you have checked the listed requirements, settings, and which GPU the game is actually using.

Troubleshoot multiplayer on Steam
- Check Steam service status. If Steam is experiencing an outage, local network changes may not resolve the problem.
- Check invite privacy. Capcom says protected Steam profile settings may prevent invites from being sent. Try setting profile privacy to Public or Friends Only and test again.
- Reduce other network use for a test. Pause downloads, streaming, or other high-traffic activity and, if practical, test with fewer devices using the connection. Capcom says 15–20 Mbps is often sufficient for online gaming, but this is general guidance—not a measured Monster Hunter Rise-specific minimum. Other devices and simultaneous work or streaming can reduce available bandwidth.
- Restart the local connection. Exit the game, restart the PC, and restart the modem or router. Change one thing at a time where practical so you can tell whether the test helped.
- Consider NAT and router settings. Capcom notes that strict NAT can make it difficult to connect to some online game servers; some university or college networks may impose restrictions. Check whether UPnP is enabled if appropriate for your network. If you are unsure about NAT, ports, or router configuration, ask the router manufacturer or internet provider rather than changing security settings blindly.
- Test the connection path. If you are on Wi-Fi, try wired Ethernet between the PC and router. If you are already wired, Capcom suggests testing a direct connection to the modem to help isolate the router. A cable is a diagnostic step, not a fix for every server, NAT, or software problem.
- Check firewall permissions. Make sure Windows Firewall and other security software allow
MonsterHunterRise.exeto communicate. Add an exception only for the trusted game installation.
Connection checklist for the Microsoft Store edition
Capcom’s Microsoft Store FAQ gives a separate network checklist. Try its equipment reboot and minimal-network-path tests, then check Wi-Fi signal conditions such as distance, channel or band, and interference. It also recommends wired Ethernet, checking packet filtering, and confirming ISP status. The listed ports are specific to this Microsoft Store guidance; do not treat them as a universal Steam requirement.

Capcom’s FAQ also recommends enabling UPnP. Changing router settings or allowing network traffic can affect security; if you do not know how to make the change safely, contact your ISP or equipment manufacturer.
When more than one symptom is happening
Use the failure point to choose the next branch rather than changing everything at once. A launch failure points first to requirements, security software, drivers, GPU selection, or game files. Low FPS points first to hardware margin, graphics settings, and laptop power or GPU routing. A multiplayer failure points first to Steam service and profile privacy, then to local network use, NAT, connection path, and firewall. Also confirm the storefront before applying network instructions.
