Why Luna can lag even when your internet seems fast
Luna runs games on remote servers and streams the resulting audio and video to your device. That means the experience depends not just on your internet plan’s advertised speed, but on the connection’s stability and the device playing the stream. Amazon notes that streaming resolution, quality, and latency can vary with device, location, network connection, available bandwidth, and subscription status. It may adjust stream quality to avoid interruptions and does not guarantee a particular resolution or quality. Amazon Luna Terms
Amazon’s stated minimum for 1080p is a sustained connection of at least 10 Mbps. Treat that as a baseline requirement, not a target that guarantees responsiveness. If Luna displays “Network issues detected,” Amazon says the connection may be fluctuating and unable to sustain 10 Mbps consistently. A single speed test can show a momentary result; it cannot establish that the connection remains steady throughout a session. Try these network fixes in order
1. Test a wired connection or improve Wi-Fi
Amazon recommends using a wired network. If your Luna device has an Ethernet port or supports an appropriate adapter, connect it to the router and compare gameplay. If Ethernet is not practical, try Wi-Fi on the 5 GHz band first if your router offers dual-band Wi-Fi. If that does not help, Amazon’s troubleshooting guidance suggests trying a different band and moving the device closer to the router. Neither band is automatically better in every home: distance, walls, and local signal conditions affect the result. 2. Reduce competition for bandwidth
Pause or schedule large downloads, cloud backups, and other high-bandwidth activities while playing. Close bandwidth-heavy apps on the device running Luna. 3. Turn off VPNs and proxies
Disable a VPN or proxy during a Luna session. Amazon says these can increase latency or prevent gameplay. On iPhone or iPad, Amazon recommends using Wi-Fi rather than cellular for Luna. Troubleshoot lag, buffering, or choppy gameplay
Check device, browser, and display settings
- Update the software: Amazon recommends using the latest operating system, Luna app, or browser available for your device. Troubleshoot lag, buffering, or choppy gameplay
- Windows PC or Mac using Chrome: Make sure Chrome’s hardware acceleration is enabled. Troubleshoot lag, buffering, or choppy gameplay
- Fire TV: Turn on Game Mode in the TV’s settings. The exact menu label and location can vary by television. Troubleshoot lag, buffering, or choppy gameplay
- Mac or Fire Tablet with a quality issue: Amazon recommends turning off Location Services while playing as a targeted troubleshooting step for these devices. This is not a general Luna setting for every device. Troubleshoot lag, buffering, or choppy gameplay
Tell network stutter apart from controller delay
Look at what is actually delayed. Buffering, a choppy picture, or a Luna network warning points toward the stream or connection. If the picture remains smooth but controls feel slow to respond, controller input may be a separate factor. This distinction is a practical way to narrow down the issue, not a formal Amazon diagnostic test.

Amazon lists Cloud Direct, Bluetooth, and USB-C as Luna Controller connection options, and says Cloud Direct reduces latency on compatible devices. That may matter when input response is the problem, but it is not a general fix for buffering or unstable video. Amazon does not publish a universal latency figure or a guaranteed improvement for Ethernet, controller connection modes, or these settings. Connect a Luna Controller

Change one thing at a time and compare a short session under similar conditions. Start with Ethernet or a closer Wi-Fi position, then remove competing traffic, and finally try the device-specific settings. If the issue persists, note whether Luna reports network issues, whether only the picture stutters, or whether only control response feels delayed. Those observations help separate a connection problem from a device or input issue; a faster result on one test does not by itself identify the cause.
