XAML Studioは、WinUIベースのXAMLを独立した画面で素早く試作し、使えるコードをVisual Studioのアプリへ取り込むためのツールです。小さなUIを編集して表示やバインディングを確かめるのに向いています。一方、実行中アプリのUIや実データを調べる場面では、Visual StudioのHot ReloadやLive Visual Treeなどを使います。
XAML Studioでできること
公式プロジェクトはXAML Studioを、WinUIベースのXAMLを素早く試作し、Visual Studio内のアプリへコピーできるツールと説明しています。アプリ全体を置き換えるIDEというより、UIのアイデアを小さく試す作業場として捉えると、役割を理解しやすくなります。公式GitHubリポジトリ
画面を編集して見た目を確かめるだけでなく、データコンテキストエディターやバインディングデバッガーを使い、データとUIの結び付きも確認できます。IntelliSense、ドキュメントツールボックス、配置ガイド、名前空間ヘルパーは、記述やレイアウトの試行を支援します。自動保存と文書復元も備えています。
入手方法とバージョンの見分け方
公式リポジトリでは、mainブランチをMicrosoft Store版v1.1に対応するものとして案内し、v2の開発先をdevブランチとしています。したがって、Store版とソースからビルドする開発版は同じものとして扱わないでください。Microsoftのオープンソース化告知も、告知時点の最後の公開Store版は1.1で、v2は開発中と説明しています。これは告知時点の状況であり、現在のStore掲載状況やバージョンを示すものではありません。公式リポジトリ · Microsoft .NET Blogの告知

通常利用の入手経路として、リポジトリはMicrosoft Storeを案内しています。ソースからのビルドは開発者向けの別手順です。リポジトリの記載によると、ビルドにはVisual Studio 2022以降とWindows 10以降に加え、Windows application developmentワークロード、Universal Windows Platform tools、Windows 17763 SDKが必要です。
ソースからビルドする場合
- 公式リポジトリをcloneし、devブランチに切り替えます。
- Visual Studioでリポジトリ内の
XAMLStudio.slnxを開きます。 XAMLStudioプロジェクトをスタートアッププロジェクトに設定し、ビルドして実行します。
ARM64 PCではARM64構成でビルド・実行するようリポジトリが案内しています。同じ案内にはARM64関連の既知issueも記載されているため、問題が起きた場合はリポジトリのissue情報も確認してください。手順と要件は公式セットアップ案内にあります。

XAML Studioを活用する試作ワークフロー
- 小さなUI課題を切り出す。画面全体を移すのではなく、レイアウト、コントロールの組み合わせ、簡単なバインディングなど、確かめたい点を絞ります。
- XAMLを編集して表示を確認する。ライブ編集と操作を使い、変更が意図した見た目や振る舞いになるかを試します。
- データとバインディングを点検する。データコンテキストエディターで試作用データを調整し、バインディングデバッガーで値の結び付きを確認します。プレビューが表示されたことだけで、アプリ本体でも正しく動くと判断しないのがポイントです。
- 使えるXAMLをVisual Studioのプロジェクトへ移す。試作コードを本体に取り込み、アプリの構成や対象環境に合わせます。
- 対象アプリを実行して検証する。アプリ本体の実データや実行時のUI構造を確認し、必要ならVisual Studioのランタイムツールで修正します。
この流れは、XAML Studioの試作とVisual Studioへの統合という公式の位置付けに沿っています。試作環境での表示は、対象アプリや実行環境での検証の代わりにはなりません。XAML Studio公式リポジトリ

実行中アプリを調べるVisual Studioのツールと、独立した試作場所であるXAML Studioでは、確認対象が異なります。プロジェクトの対象フレームワーク、実データが必要か、UIの実行時構造を調べる必要があるかを基準に使い分けてください。Visual StudioのXAML関連機能は、Microsoft LearnのXAML tools案内でも確認できます。

つまずきやすい点
- 試作の表示を完成判定にしない。本体プロジェクトへ移した後、対象アプリ上で表示、バインディング、実際のデータを確認します。
- 開発版とStore版を混同しない。リポジトリの案内ではmainがStore版v1.1、devがv2開発用です。最新の配布状況はStoreまたは公式リポジトリで確認してください。
- Live Previewの制約を考慮する。画面外の領域やキャプチャ制限のあるウィンドウでは、期待どおり表示・更新されない場合があります。必要なら実行中アプリ自体も確認します。
- ソースビルドの環境要件を先に揃える。Visual StudioのワークロードやUWPツール、指定SDKが不足していると、手順の途中でビルドできないことがあります。
