For regular use, the project’s FAQ says the default settings maintain the server list; if connections fail, check the list and your network configuration rather than assuming you need a new server.
Where can you get an eMule server list?
The eMule Project FAQ’s answer to “Where to get a server list?” names ed2k.has.it and says to click “Add to eMule.” That FAQ was last updated on September 3, 2003, so its recommendation does not establish that the address is online, trustworthy, or safe today. No current list provider is verified here, so treat that address as a historical reference—not a present-day endorsement.
For ordinary use, the same FAQ says eMule’s default settings keep the list updated during sessions and regular use. If the list appears stale or you cannot connect, check it then; the old FAQ is not evidence that you must refresh it on a fixed schedule.
Which eMule server is fastest or best?
There is no officially recognized fastest or best server. The project FAQ, authored by Monk and updated September 3, 2003, states: “There is no fastest or best server.” Servers help with connection and search, while eMule can also find file sources through Source Exchange between clients. Choosing a server is not a guarantee of faster transfers or better results.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to troubleshoot eMule connection problems
If eMule will not connect, check these items in order. Exact labels can vary by client version; use the settings shown in your installed client.
- Check the server list. Confirm that it is not obviously stale. Do not assume a list address mentioned in a 2003 FAQ is still maintained.
- Check the static-server-only setting. If “Autoconnect to static servers only” is enabled, confirm that you have a valid
staticservers.dat. The FAQ warns that this setting can prevent connection when the file is not available or useful. - Check firewall and router rules. Look at the ports configured in your current eMule client and whether your firewall, router, or other network software is blocking that traffic. Configure rules for the ports actually in use, not numbers copied from an old example.
- Retest after changes. Make one change at a time and retry the connection so you can identify which setting affected the result.
The FAQ lists 4662/TCP, 4672/UDP, and 4711/TCP as examples, but that document is from 2003 and also allows users to choose other client ports. These figures are historical troubleshooting clues, not universal settings for current clients, routers, or ISP networks. Check the ports displayed by your own client before changing network rules.

Does an eMule server list protect your privacy?
No. An eMule server list is not an anonymity or privacy feature. In a 2004 FAQ updated February 27, 2004, the project explains that peer-to-peer transfers require the other client to know the target client’s IP address and concludes that eMule is not anonymous. That is a historical explanation, not a modern privacy audit or a complete assessment of current client behavior.
The project homepage describes eMule as a free, open-source peer-to-peer client using ED2K and Kademlia, with Source Exchange and protocol obfuscation among its features. Those features do not establish that a user’s identity is anonymous or that every connection has modern encryption. Do not treat protocol obfuscation as a substitute for understanding what information peers can see.

What the old FAQ can—and cannot—tell you about security
The project’s older FAQ mentions firewall misclassification of traffic, incoming requests that may continue briefly after eMule is closed, and an IP Filter. These are version-era notes, not proof that a particular current filter list is safe or blocks all malicious traffic. Use current client and network-device documentation for settings, and do not rely on the FAQ’s age-old examples as a security guarantee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which eMule version should you use?
The official project pages consulted list official version 0.50a and community version 0.70b; the download page describes 0.50a as the latest official stable release and says the community version is more up to date. These labels can change, so check the project’s download page and project page for the current listings. The available information does not establish that either edition is safer in every situation.
