A 2025 Google job listing described Aluminium as a new Android-based operating system with AI at its core. In May 2026, Google announced Googlebook, a laptop category combining Android and ChromeOS technologies. Google has not said that Googlebook runs Android 16 specifically or publicly defined exactly how the Aluminium codename maps to Googlebook OS.
What is Aluminium OS?
Aluminium OS was the name in a Google job listing reported by 9to5Google in November 2025. The listing, for a Senior Product Manager, Android, Laptop and Tablets, described Aluminium as a new Android-based operating system and said: “Aluminium is a new operating system built with Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the core.” 9to5Google’s report reproduced the listing’s wording.
The listing described work on commercial devices across laptops, detachables, tablets and “boxes,” and mentioned several product tiers. That establishes the range of work described in the listing, not that every device type or tier was released. At the time, the plans were still uncertain.
Is Aluminium OS the same as Googlebook?
Not as far as Google has publicly confirmed. Google’s May 12, 2026 announcement introduced Googlebook as a new laptop category that brings together Android apps and operating-system features with ChromeOS and its browser. Google did not call the product Aluminium OS or state that it runs Android 16. The precise relationship between the reported codename and Googlebook OS has not been established publicly.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Google’s announcement highlights Gemini features, including Magic Pointer contextual suggestions and widgets created from prompts. It also describes phone-to-laptop continuity: Quick Access lets users find phone files from the laptop’s file browser. These are announced capabilities, not a guarantee that every Android app or feature will work identically on every model. Google’s Googlebook announcement is the source for the product description.
Is Google bringing Android to laptops?
Google is bringing Android technology into its announced laptop category, but Googlebook is described as a combination of Android and ChromeOS technologies—not simply an Android phone operating system placed on a laptop. Google’s public description emphasizes apps, the browser, Gemini features and phone integration. The complete software architecture and compatibility details have not been published in the sources cited here.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Android 16 already has desktop features
Android 16 adds desktop-style windowing for large-screen devices. Google’s June 2025 announcement described opening, moving and resizing multiple app windows, alongside taskbar overflow and keyboard shortcuts. At that time, Google said connected-display expansion was forthcoming. Google’s Android 16 announcement describes those features.
On March 3, 2026, Android Developers announced that connected-display support became generally available with Android 16 QPR3. On supported Pixel and Samsung phones, users can connect an external monitor for a desktop session with a taskbar and multiple freely resizable app windows. Compatible tablets can extend the session across both displays. Support depends on the device, and apps designed only for portrait screens or touch input may not adapt well. See the Android Developers announcement for the supported-device and app-adaptation context.

Will Google replace ChromeOS?
Google has not announced that ChromeOS is being discontinued or that existing Chromebooks will migrate to Googlebook. In a 2026 interview reported by Android Authority, Google Android Ecosystem President Sameer Samat said, “Development for Chrome OS will absolutely continue as is,” and described ChromeOS as its own use case. That points against an immediate end to ChromeOS development, but it does not settle the long-term support or migration plan. Android Authority’s interview report contains Samat’s comments.

When can I buy a Googlebook?
Google initially said it was working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo on the first Googlebooks and would share more as devices became available in fall 2026. Its announcement did not provide a complete public list of prices, specifications or regional availability.
A September 2026 TechRadar hands-on report described devices from the five partner brands, a range of processor platforms and form factors, and reported preorder and shipping timing. Those details are TechRadar’s reporting, not a complete official specification sheet from Google. Check the current listings in your region for exact models, prices, preorder status and shipping dates. TechRadar’s Googlebook report provides its hands-on account.

What to check before choosing a Googlebook
Google’s announcement establishes the direction of the product, but not enough detail to compare every model or decide whether it suits a particular workflow. When official specifications and retail listings are available, assess:
Quick Recap
- App and browser compatibility: Confirm that the apps you rely on support the laptop’s input methods and screen layout; Android apps may not behave equally well with a keyboard and mouse.
- Gemini features: Check which announced AI functions are present on the specific model and whether they meet your needs.
- Phone integration: Verify the phone and file-sharing features you expect to use, rather than assuming every phone works identically.
- Hardware and form factor: Compare the exact processor, memory, storage, display and device shape in the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Management and support: For school or work, verify device-management options, update commitments and support terms for the exact model.
- Price and availability: Confirm the current regional price and stock with the retailer or manufacturer; Google’s initial announcement did not specify them.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
