Windows 11 can show separate taskbar buttons with labels for each open app window: turn on Never in the taskbar’s Combine taskbar buttons setting. That feature has been available since a November 2023 update. A separate control reportedly being tested can ring a misplaced Android phone, but Microsoft’s published material cited here does not confirm its general availability or compatibility.
Show separate taskbar buttons with window labels
When Windows combines windows from the same app, the taskbar can show one app icon instead of a distinct button for each open window. With Never combine enabled, each window gets its own taskbar button and label, making it easier to distinguish windows without opening a thumbnail preview.
Microsoft introduced Never combined mode in its November 14, 2023 Windows 11 update. To enable it, open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors, then change the taskbar button-combining option to Never. The setting may be labeled “Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels”; choosing Never leaves the labels visible. Microsoft also documents a separate option for applying the behavior to other taskbars when using multiple monitors. Microsoft’s November 2023 update notes describe the feature and settings path.
The visible labels may recall older taskbar layouts, including the kind many people associate with Windows XP. That is a useful analogy for the interaction, not evidence that Windows 11 reproduces a specific XP feature or implementation.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
How taskbar position and labels are changing
The Never setting is distinct from newer taskbar-position options announced for Windows Insiders in May 2026. Microsoft said these changes were beginning to roll out in the Experimental Channel; that announcement does not establish that they are available on every Windows 11 PC.
| Taskbar behavior | What is established | Availability context |
|---|---|---|
| Never combine and show labels | Separate labeled buttons for individual app windows. | Introduced in a Windows 11 update on November 14, 2023, according to Microsoft’s release notes. |
| Move taskbar to another screen edge | Top, bottom, left, or right placement was announced, along with alignment options. | Microsoft described the rollout to Experimental Channel Insiders on May 15, 2026; the announcement does not promise general availability. |
| Use labels in different positions | Microsoft said app labels would be available across taskbar positions, including a vertical taskbar with Never combine enabled. | A May 29, 2026 update said the changes had started rolling out in the Experimental Channel. See Microsoft’s update for its rollout context. |
Insider features can vary by build and rollout status. If the position or label controls described in those announcements are missing, the announcements alone do not indicate that your installation is eligible.

- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What Microsoft documents about connecting a phone
Microsoft has separately documented Windows features for connected phones. Its October 21, 2025 Release Preview notes describe a mobile-device button next to Search that expands or collapses content from a connected phone. Microsoft said that integration supports Android and iOS devices in most markets, with an EEA rollout planned for 2025. This is a connected-phone feature; the announcement does not say that the button rings a phone. Read Microsoft’s Release Preview notes.
In a July 24, 2025 post, Microsoft also described a refreshed Link to Windows experience for Android, with a connected-PC hub and setup using Link to Windows on the phone and Phone Link on the PC. The post’s Insider setup instructions point to Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices > Manage devices. Those instructions concern that refreshed Insider experience; they should not be treated as universal requirements for every stable Windows installation. Microsoft’s Link to Windows announcement has the setup context.

What is—and is not—known about ringing an Android phone
Pureinfotech reported on September 28, 2026 that Windows 11 is adding Mobile Devices controls to Quick Settings, including a toggle to ring a phone. That is a third-party report, not confirmation in the Microsoft announcements described above. Read the report.
The cited Microsoft material does not establish whether this particular ring control has been released broadly, which Windows or Phone Link build it requires, which Android versions or phone models it supports, or where it is available. Treat it as reported or under testing unless Microsoft confirms the exact behavior for your device and build. Do not assume that every Android phone paired with Phone Link can be rung from Quick Settings.
