The Galaxy Tab S12+ is the better fit if you want an included S Pen, an AMOLED screen and Samsung DeX; the 2026 iPad Air with M4 is the stronger documented silicon choice and suits buyers already invested in iPad apps and Apple devices. Samsung has added substantial productivity features, but the available specifications do not establish a direct performance winner or prove that DeX and iPadOS windowing are equivalent. Your apps, preferred screen and the full cost of accessories should decide between them.
At a glance: two different productivity setups
| What matters | Galaxy Tab S12+ | 13-inch iPad Air (M4, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Processor and memory | Samsung identifies a 3 nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500; the cited listing does not provide a directly comparable benchmark against M4. | Apple lists M4 with an 8-core CPU, 9-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 12GB unified memory and 120GB/s memory bandwidth. |
| Display | Samsung describes a 32.04 cm AMOLED screen on its India listing. | 13-inch Liquid Retina display: IPS-based, LED-backlit, 2732 × 2048 at 264 ppi and 600 nits; Apple says the screen measures 12.9 inches as a rectangle. |
| Pen | S Pen included in the box, according to Samsung. | Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) are compatible accessories sold separately. |
| Keyboard | Samsung lists the S12+ Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim as optional compatible accessories. | Magic Keyboard is compatible and sold separately; Apple lists different prices for the 11- and 13-inch versions. |
| Productivity approach | Samsung promotes DeX and keyboard accessories as a laptop-style workflow. | Apple says iPadOS 26 adds more seamless windowing. That feature statement does not establish desktop-OS parity or equivalence to DeX. |
Specifications and accessory compatibility above come from Samsung’s India 5G listing, India Wi-Fi listing and U.S. S12 Series page, and Apple’s 13-inch iPad Air technical specifications and March 2, 2026 launch announcement. Samsung’s cited S12+ listings are regional; confirm the exact model and terms in your market.
Performance: Apple’s silicon edge is documented, not measured head-to-head
Apple publishes the M4 iPad Air’s processor, graphics, memory and bandwidth specifications. In its 2026 launch announcement, Apple says the M4 Air is up to 30 percent faster than the M3 Air and up to 2.3 times faster than the M1 Air. Those are Apple’s comparisons with earlier iPad Air generations, not independent test results and not a comparison with the Galaxy Tab S12+.
Samsung identifies the S12+ processor as a 3 nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500 and describes the tablet as suitable for multitasking and creative work, but its cited product pages do not supply a same-test result against M4. So Apple has the stronger documented silicon specification, while the size of any real-world performance difference between these two tablets is not established by the available figures. Match the decision to your actual applications and workflows rather than treating a cross-brand benchmark as settled.

Software and multitasking: choose the workflow your apps support
Galaxy Tab S12+: DeX and Android apps
Samsung positions DeX with its keyboard accessories as a laptop alternative and names Notability, Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint among its creative software examples. If you already rely on Android versions of your apps, or want a more desktop-like interface with Samsung’s multitasking tools, test those exact apps and peripherals before buying. A feature description alone cannot establish that an app’s Android edition has the same tools or file compatibility as its desktop version.
Samsung says the S12+ supports up to seven OS upgrades and security updates. That is Samsung’s product-page support statement; the cited page does not give a calendar end date or independently establish how long updates will arrive in practice. Check the wording for the precise model and region you plan to buy.
iPad Air: iPadOS windowing and the Apple app ecosystem
Apple describes iPadOS 26 as bringing more seamless windowing to iPad Air. That can matter if you want to arrange apps in windows, but it should not be mistaken for proof of parity with macOS, Windows or Samsung DeX. Apple also cites its creator apps and Goodnotes as examples for M4; verify that the iPad versions of your required apps handle your files, plugins and peripherals as you need.

A Tom’s Guide reviewer used the Magic Keyboard while writing the review and reported responsive keys and an accurate trackpad, while noting the accessory’s price and lack of backlighting. That is one reviewer’s experience with Apple’s keyboard, not a comparison with Samsung’s keyboards. See the Tom’s Guide iPad Air M4 review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteScreen and size: AMOLED versus Liquid Retina
Samsung’s India listing describes the S12+ display as 32.04 cm diagonally. Treat that as Samsung’s stated measurement rather than automatically converting it to a viewable diagonal in inches; Samsung’s rounding and corner-measurement note matters. The cited listing identifies AMOLED technology, but Samsung’s India listing does not provide a directly comparable brightness or resolution figure for this screen.
Apple markets this model as the 13-inch iPad Air. Its technical specifications describe a 12.9-inch rectangular measurement, IPS-based Liquid Retina display with LED backlighting, 2732 × 2048 resolution, 264 pixels per inch and 600 nits brightness. Pick by the display quality and size you prefer in person, not by comparing the marketed diagonals as though they were identical measurement conventions.

Pen, keyboard and the real accessory cost
The pen comparison is straightforward at purchase: Samsung says an S Pen is included with the S12+, while Apple lists both Pencil models as separate purchases. Do not treat the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) as interchangeable; check the features and compatibility you need before choosing. A keyboard is an additional purchase with either setup.

| Galaxy Tab S12+ and its compatible keyboards | Not established in the cited sources | Samsung lists the S12+ Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim as separate optional accessories; Samsung’s cited India listings do not establish a comparable current U.S. tablet price. |
Apple’s prices are U.S. launch prices from its March 2, 2026 announcement, not a guarantee of current pricing or promotions. Samsung’s India listings should not be used to infer U.S. prices. Compare current local prices for the exact tablet, storage, connectivity and keyboard configuration before deciding which package costs less. See Apple’s launch announcement for its stated prices and compatibility details.
Battery, support and bundled software
Samsung lists a 10,600 mAh battery and advertises up to 21 hours of video playback for the S12+. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a reproduced side-by-side test; Samsung notes playback varies with connection, settings, file format, brightness, battery condition and other factors. The cited material does not establish an equivalent, directly comparable runtime for the iPad Air.

Samsung also lists limited-duration software offers: four months of Adobe Photoshop, six months of Notability Plus, six months of Clip Studio Paint EX, one month of Notion Business and one year of Goodnotes Essential. These are offers Samsung advertises, not permanent inclusions; check the dates, eligibility and local terms for the specific purchase. Apple’s launch material does not establish a directly comparable bundle in the cited sources.
Which tablet should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy Tab S12+ if
- You want an S Pen included rather than buying a compatible stylus separately.
- You prefer Samsung’s AMOLED screen and the DeX workflow fits your keyboard-based work.
- Your must-have apps and file workflows work well in their Android versions.
- You use Samsung or Android devices and value continuity with that ecosystem.
Choose the 13-inch iPad Air with M4 if
- You want the stronger published silicon specification and Apple’s stated M4 comparisons to earlier iPad Air models.
- Your creative or productivity apps are best supported on iPadOS, or you already use Apple devices.
- You prefer the specified Liquid Retina display and are comfortable adding the Pencil and keyboard you need.
- You want to base your decision on Apple’s published hardware details and iPadOS 26 windowing rather than assuming it duplicates a laptop operating system.
Before ordering either one, list the apps you need, confirm their required features on the tablet operating system, and price the complete setup in your country. Include the keyboard, stylus, connectivity tier and storage configuration; the cited sources do not establish a market-matched S12+ versus iPad Air total price.
