When an iPhone user reacted to a message in an RCS conversation, the Android recipient could get a separate text description—something like “Ryan loved an image”—instead of seeing the reaction attached to the message. iOS 27 reportedly changes that: Android recipients can see the emoji reaction itself. The update also adds inline replies to RCS messages, helping keep a response tied to the message it answers.
What changed with Tapback reactions?
Tapbacks are quick reactions, such as a heart or thumbs-up, that an iPhone user can add to a message. In the older cross-platform RCS behavior described by technology reporters, an Android recipient might see a separate text description of the reaction rather than the reaction displayed on the original message.
In its September 17, 2026 Messages feature recap, 9to5Mac reported that iOS 27 lets Android recipients see the reaction itself. Earlier beta coverage by Android Authority described native emoji and photo reactions in RCS chats. The practical difference is that the reaction is easier to understand in context, rather than arriving as another message in the conversation.
Can iPhone users reply to a specific Android message now?
Yes, in an RCS conversation, iOS 27 adds inline replies: an iPhone user can respond to a particular message and have the reply presented with that message, rather than relying only on the conversation’s chronological flow. This is useful when several messages arrive close together or when a response refers to something earlier in the thread. Both 9to5Mac’s feature recap and Android Authority’s beta report describe the change.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Which conversations get these improvements?
The reported reaction and inline-reply changes concern RCS chats between iPhone and Android. “Green bubble” is a familiar shorthand for cross-platform messages on an iPhone, but bubble color alone does not establish which messaging protocol a particular conversation is using. These reports do not establish that the changes apply to every green-bubble conversation, including those using SMS or MMS.
RCS is distinct from iMessage, Apple’s messaging service for Apple devices, and from SMS/MMS, the older standards used for text and multimedia messages. Apple’s iOS 27 guide says feature availability can vary by iPhone model, region, language, and carrier. It does not explicitly document the RCS reaction or inline-reply improvements on the page reviewed, so the feature details here are based on the cited technology reporting.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Is this the same as encrypted RCS?
No. Apple and Google announced a beta rollout of end-to-end encrypted RCS on May 11, 2026, for iOS 26.5 iPhones on supported carriers and Android users using the latest Google Messages. That is a separate privacy feature from iOS 27’s reported reactions and inline replies.
Apple said encrypted RCS chats would show a lock icon and that encryption would be on by default as the feature rolled out. Its announcement explains: “When RCS messages are end-to-end encrypted, they can’t be read while they’re sent between devices.” See Apple’s announcement and Google’s announcement. The supported-carrier details in those announcements concern encryption rollout; they are not a definitive compatibility list for the iOS 27 reaction and reply changes.

Do you need a new iPhone?
No new hardware purchase is established as a requirement. The changes are software features, so an iPhone must be able to install iOS 27 to use them. Check Apple’s current iOS 27 compatibility information for your model, and remember that availability can also depend on carrier and region.
