Wave Sense and Samsung reportedly resolved their dispute over alleged sensor-signal processing in Galaxy devices and jointly asked a federal court to dismiss the case. The court closed it on October 2, 2026, according to a contemporaneous report, but did not rule on whether Samsung infringed the patent.

What was the Samsung–Wave Sense lawsuit about?

Wave Sense, LLC sued Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on November 12, 2024. The docket identifies the case as a patent-infringement action, case 2:2024cv00920. Justia’s docket listing identifies the parties, court, filing date, and case type; its docket report was last retrieved January 6, 2025, so it does not confirm the later closure.

In its account of the complaint, SammyGuru reported that Wave Sense accused Samsung of infringing U.S. Patent No. 7,583,819, which it described as covering digital signal processing for sensor signals, including accelerometer data. Wave Sense’s allegations focused on motion-detection systems in Galaxy products. Those claims were allegations, not findings by the court. SammyGuru’s October 6, 2026 report summarizes them.

Galaxy devices named in the allegations

SammyGuru reported that the complaint named the Galaxy S7, S8, Note 8, S9, S10, Note 10, S20 5G, S21 Ultra 5G, and Galaxy Fold. The report also said Wave Sense highlighted the Galaxy S8 and an inertial sensor module from STMicroelectronics. These details describe the plaintiff’s case as reported; they do not establish that any listed device infringed.

Did Samsung settle the lawsuit?

SammyGuru described the dispute as settled and reported that the parties jointly requested dismissal of all claims and counterclaims. According to the report, Judge Robert W. Schroeder III approved the request on October 2, 2026, the clerk closed the case, and remaining applications were dismissed as unnecessary.

The accessible docket listing does not verify those 2026 events, and the joint filing and operative order were not independently accessible for confirmation. The accurate distinction is that a contemporaneous report characterized the resolution as a settlement and said the parties jointly sought dismissal; the precise settlement terms are not established by the accessible material.

Did a court find that Samsung infringed the patent?

No. The report says the court did not decide whether Samsung’s devices infringed U.S. Patent No. 7,583,819. There was no reported merits ruling establishing infringement or clearing Samsung of the allegations. A dismissal following a reported resolution is not, by itself, a judicial decision on the patent claim.

What settlement terms are known?

SammyGuru reported that Samsung did not have to pay damages or face an injunction and that each side would bear its own litigation costs and expenses. Because the joint request and order could not be independently reviewed, that cost and remedy description should be treated as secondary-source reporting. No specific payment, license, admission, or product change is confirmed by the accessible material.
