Lucy Montgomery, the voice of Hibi in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, suggested basing the character’s voice on the Liverpool—or Scouse—accent. Fuse Games says the idea immediately suited Hibi: a welcoming mechanic with plenty of enthusiasm for repulsorcraft.

Lucy Montgomery voices Hibi, an Ardennian mechanic who supports the racer Shade. Fuse describes Hibi as an expert mechanic who tinkers with and upgrades vehicles, making her a prominent companion in the game.
How did Hibi’s Scouse accent come about?
Nathaniel Daw, Fuse Games’ Music & Narrative Director, says Montgomery was the first to suggest a voice based on Liverpool’s accent. Daw recalled: “Hibi’s voice actor Lucy Montgomery was the one who first suggested a voice based on the Liverpool (or Scouse) accent and the moment we heard that we knew we’d found our Hibi.” Fuse Games’ announcement
The accent also matched the character brief. Daw said Hibi needed to come across as friendly and welcoming while conveying her passion for repulsorcraft. Fuse wanted a voice that was loud, lively, and lighthearted.

Why did the idea resonate with the creative director?
Creative Director Kieran Crimmins has a personal connection to Liverpool: he said his family is from the city and that he grew up in the north of England. In an interview reported by Game Up News, Crimmins also said Montgomery’s voice and energy reminded him of his auntie. That personal reaction helps explain why the performance resonated with him, but it is separate from the accent’s origin: Daw credits Montgomery with proposing it.
The available account does not say Montgomery is from Liverpool; the interview report specifically says she is not. The sources explain the creative choice, but do not provide a linguistic assessment of how closely the performance matches local speech or audience-response data.
