Possibly in theory, but Sony’s patent application does not announce that FromSoftware bosses—or any released game—will change their moves. US 2026/0295429 A1 describes a system that uses player and game data from an encounter with a non-player character (NPC) to generate NPC content with a machine-learning model. Bosses adapting to a player’s habits are one possible interpretation, not a confirmed PlayStation feature.
What Sony’s patent application describes
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s published application, US 2026/0295429 A1, outlines a pipeline: collect data about a player and the game during at least one player–NPC encounter, use those data to generate input for a machine-learning model, and use NPC content returned by the model to modify game content. The application’s abstract, reproduced by Patentlyze, says: “Input data for a machine learning model is generated from the player data and the video game data, and the input data is used to obtain non-player character content from the machine learning model.” Patentlyze’s application summary and abstract provides the reported wording and filing details.
The described NPC content is broader than a boss’s attack sequence. Coverage characterizes it as potentially involving behavior and other character attributes; the application is not limited in the reporting to soulslike enemies. Wccftech quotes the patent text describing its subject as “improving video game systems using an artificial intelligence-adapted non-player character.” Wccftech’s coverage discusses how that broad concept might apply to enemy behavior.
Could a boss adapt to how you play?
That is a plausible use of the general idea, but it is not a feature Sony has confirmed. For example, a developer might choose to use encounter data to influence which tactics an enemy uses. Wccftech offers the illustrative possibility of a boss reaching a stronger second phase sooner when a player is under pressure. That scenario is journalistic speculation; it is not established as a required function of the application.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
“Learnable” does not have to mean that every attempt is identical. A game could, in principle, retain recognizable moves while varying timing, selection, or other behavior. But the sources do not establish that this system would make bosses unpredictable, remove fixed patterns, or be used in a FromSoftware game. No named game or studio is identified as adopting it.
What the application does not settle
The coverage says the application does not specify a particular machine-learning model architecture. That leaves key design choices unanswered. The reported material does not establish whether a finished system would run locally or remotely, how often it could update NPC behavior, or whether any changes would persist or be reversible.

Fairness is another open question. An adaptive enemy could make an encounter feel responsive, but if its changes are too sudden or opaque, players may struggle to learn why a tactic stopped working. How a developer might preserve readable tells, consistent rules, or meaningful practice is not resolved by the application’s general description. These are questions about possible implementations, not documented guarantees or shortcomings of a shipped game.

A published patent application documents a proposed invention; it does not show that the concept has been approved in its current form or will appear in a commercial game. Patentlyze labels grant likelihood “Medium,” but that is the publisher’s estimate, not an official agency forecast. The sources provide no measured results showing that the system improves gameplay or has been tested with players.
