It signals growing activity, but it cannot by itself establish how much stablecoins are used for everyday purchases.
What does the $12.5 billion figure measure?
Bitcoin Magazine reported the record using data from Paymentscan that The Kobeissi Letter had first shared. The article says the figure was up 140% year to date and 247% compared with October 2025. The report does not explain the periods or methodology behind those comparisons, so they should be read as reported growth rates rather than independently verifiable measurements. Bitcoin Magazine’s report does not describe the estimate as audited.
Most importantly, $12.5 billion is presented as an industry-wide estimate, not the volume of a single card provider. The reporting does not establish how many issuers or transactions are included, or what share of the estimated total was paid using stablecoins.
How does the separate $1.03 billion figure fit?
Crypto Briefing reports a different measure: stablecoin card spending reached $1.03 billion across more than 10 million transactions in July 2026, the first month it exceeded $1 billion. That figure is not a breakdown of the $12.5 billion estimate; the two reports describe separate totals with different stated scopes. The coverage does not provide enough methodology to reconcile them. Crypto Briefing’s report also puts Jupiter’s September 2026 card settlement volume at $7.6 million, 8% above the previous month—a provider-specific figure, not an industry total.

What may be driving crypto card payments?
The Kobeissi Letter attributed the increase to greater stablecoin use as a payment rail and demand for cheaper, faster cross-border transactions, as quoted by Bitcoin Magazine. That is the Letter’s explanation, not independently established causation. The reported growth is consistent with increased card activity, but the figures alone do not show why customers used the cards or how much activity represented everyday spending.
Bitcoin Magazine also quotes The Kobeissi Letter saying, “Crypto cards are the next phase of crypto adoption.” The statement expresses the Letter’s view; it is not evidence that card use measures crypto adoption as a whole.

How crypto cards can turn tokens into purchases
A crypto card generally connects a crypto balance to a card payment process, but the details vary by provider. Crypto Briefing describes Jupiter Spend as accepting USDC or USDT through the Jupiter app on Solana and converting the funds to a USD balance for purchases. The article reports fee-free Solana deposits, foreign-exchange fees of 1% or 1.8% depending on issuer, and QR Pay in select Asia-Pacific markets.
