What is Coinbase Global Exchange?
Coinbase Global Exchange is Coinbase’s name for its combined global derivatives platform following the Deribit integration. Coinbase announced on October 7, 2026, that the integration was complete; its Help page says the International Exchange transition to Deribit was completed on October 1. The name describes Coinbase’s global platform, not a claim that all Coinbase customers now use the same interface or have the same product access.
Coinbase says existing Deribit clients keep Deribit as their home account while gaining access to Coinbase spot markets and additional perpetual contracts. Coinbase International Exchange institutional accounts and positions were migrated to Deribit by Coinbase. Retail perpetual traders continue using Coinbase.com or the Coinbase app, including Coinbase Advanced.
Is Coinbase Pro coming back?
Yes, according to Coinbase’s October 7, 2026 announcement: the company says Coinbase Pro is coming back at the end of 2026 as a professional-grade platform for spot, futures, perpetuals, options and equities. This is a planned return, not a launched product as of that announcement. Coinbase has not provided a precise launch date or explained how the relaunched Pro will relate to existing Coinbase Advanced accounts.

The announcement also does not establish that the new platform will reproduce the retired Coinbase Pro interface, fees, liquidity, API workflow or account model. Those details should be checked against Coinbase’s launch information when the product becomes available rather than assumed from the old product’s name.
What changes for current Coinbase and Deribit users?
Retail customers trading perpetuals
Coinbase says retail perpetual trading remains in the Coinbase app and on Coinbase.com, including Coinbase Advanced. The infrastructure transition was automatic; retail customers were not told to move their accounts. Coinbase says open positions were settled at mark price and recreated at the settlement price, with no trading or settlement fees charged for the transition. The company says the process was designed to preserve the economic position.

As a result of the conversion, Coinbase warns users may see multiple trade records, a reset average entry price or temporary small differences in displayed profit and loss. These reporting effects do not, by themselves, mean that a position was intentionally closed and reopened at a different economic value.
International Exchange institutional clients
Coinbase says International Exchange institutional accounts, balances and positions migrated to Deribit on October 1, 2026. Its institutional FAQ describes open perpetual orders being canceled, positions settled at mark price, resulting balances transferred and positions recreated at the settlement price. Institutional clients should follow their account-specific instructions and current API documentation: Coinbase flags API endpoint changes, margin-mode choices and differences in historical reporting.

Existing Deribit clients and Prime clients
Coinbase says existing Deribit clients retain Deribit as their home account and gain Coinbase spot-market access and additional perpetual contracts. Coinbase also says Prime relationships are unchanged. Neither statement means every product is available to every account or jurisdiction.
Can you trade options now?
As of Coinbase’s October 7, 2026 announcement, options were described as a forthcoming feature for eligible Coinbase users, not as universally available. Coinbase said options, spot margin and unified portfolios would roll out over the coming weeks. Its Help page said US Prime clients were expected to gain crypto options in Q4 2026. These are company-stated plans and expectations; users should check their account and jurisdiction for current availability.

What Coinbase says about scale
Coinbase’s October 7, 2026 announcement said the integrated platform provided access to more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30, 2026, and described more than $1 trillion in trading volume “last year.” These are Coinbase-reported figures; the announcement did not provide an independent audit. The $30 billion figure is a dated open-interest snapshot, while the volume figure is the company’s characterization of the prior year.
Those figures should not be conflated with Coinbase’s August 14, 2025 acquisition announcement, which reported Deribit July 2025 volume above $185 billion and platform open interest of approximately $60 billion at that time. They refer to different periods and snapshots.

Access and risk considerations
Access depends on customer type, eligibility and jurisdiction. Coinbase’s institutional onboarding information says the Deribit by Coinbase application is for eligible non-US institutions in select jurisdictions; US institutions are prohibited from that specific access route. This is not a statement that all Coinbase services have the same geographic restrictions.
Coinbase warns that derivatives trading is highly risky and can result in losses greater than the funds deposited. A planned product announcement is not a recommendation to trade. Before using derivatives, review the applicable product terms, margin requirements, eligibility rules and risk disclosures.
