Yes, you can run some PC games from your Steam library locally on Android using community apps such as GameNative. It does not turn an ordinary Android phone into a SteamOS device, and compatibility and performance depend on the game and device. GameNative’s documented setup is to install the app, sign in to Steam, install a compatible game, and launch it; the game runs on the phone rather than streaming from a PC.
What “SteamOS games on Android” actually means
It is more accurate to call these Steam or PC games running on Android than to say SteamOS has come to phones. Valve describes SteamOS as a Linux-based operating system, where its Proton compatibility layer allows many Windows games to run. GameNative is a separate Android app that aims to run selected PC games locally. Its documentation describes support for libraries from Steam, Epic, and GOG.
Valve says on its SteamOS gaming page that “the vast majority of the Steam library runs on SteamOS” and cites “over 18,000 titles last we checked.” The page does not date that count, so it should not be treated as a current total or as a count of games that work on Android.
How to try Steam games locally with GameNative
GameNative’s documented basic setup is straightforward, but getting a particular game to work may take more effort.

- Download and install the GameNative APK using the project’s official site or follow the current installation instructions in its project documentation. The site also lists a Google Play beta; availability and app versions can change.
- Open GameNative and sign in to your Steam account.
- Install a game from your library that the app supports.
- Launch it and adjust settings if needed. Consult the project’s compatibility resources for game-specific reports and configurations before downloading a large title.
GameNative says games run directly on the Android device, so this method does not require streaming from a gaming PC. The project says it can apply known configurations automatically, but warns that some games do not work and others need tweaking. A community report is a useful indication, not a guarantee for a different phone or setup.
What to expect from compatibility and performance
Game support is title-specific
Do not assume that a game runs simply because it is in your Steam library or works on SteamOS. Check the compatibility information for the exact game and look for details relevant to your intended configuration. The available project documentation does not establish a universal list of working games.

There is no verified phone-wide performance rule
Because the game runs locally, the Android device does the work. However, GameNative’s reviewed documentation does not specify a universal minimum phone specification or establish a dependable performance ranking by handset model. Nor is there an independent benchmark here for a particular game and device. Treat performance as something to verify for your own combination rather than relying on a promised frame rate.
The software is still evolving
GameNative describes the experience as early and directs users to its compatibility resources. Its site displayed version 1.2.0 when reviewed, but app versions and availability can change; check the current listing and documentation before installing.

Touch controls, controllers, and comfort
GameNative lists touch input, an on-screen HUD, controller support, and a custom control editor. A physical controller is optional, not a setup requirement. If touch controls are uncomfortable for a particular game, a Bluetooth game controller for Android may be worth considering, but no specific controller is established as tested or required.
Privacy information to check before installing
GameNative’s README says it collects game launch, close, exit, installation, and performance/configuration events to improve compatibility. It describes other analytics categories as optional and switchable in settings. Review the current privacy disclosure and the app’s settings yourself, since those details can change.

GameNative and WinNative are different community projects
WinNative also describes an Android environment for Windows x86_64 game emulation, with integrations for Steam, Epic, and GOG. It is an alternative implementation, not evidence that every Steam game or Android device is supported. The available project information does not establish a reliable device-by-device performance comparison between WinNative and GameNative.
For either approach, assess the specific game’s compatibility, your device and graphics-driver support, setup and configuration needs, control options, privacy disclosures, and update cadence. The reviewed project descriptions establish local-play and control options but do not settle which phones perform best.
