007 First Light now reportedly offers Xbox Series S players a Performance mode that trades some graphical detail for smoother motion. In a first look, Pure Xbox says it appeared to run at roughly 50–60 frames per second (FPS) in most observed footage—but that is an estimate, not a locked 60FPS guarantee.
What the new Series S mode changes
Pure Xbox reports that a Performance option has appeared on Xbox Series S in recent days, alongside Quality mode. Its first-look footage suggests the Performance preset uses noticeably reduced graphical settings to raise the frame rate. The report does not identify which settings changed.
Pure Xbox estimates that the mode hovered around 50–60FPS for most of the footage it observed. That range is an outlet observation, not a published benchmark with stated testing methodology, and it does not establish that the game holds 60FPS throughout every level or situation.
The report recommends a display with variable refresh rate (VRR) as a good fit. VRR can help a compatible screen adapt to changing frame rates, but the report does not establish how consistently the mode performs across the full game or how it behaves on particular displays.

Performance mode versus Quality mode

If smoother movement matters more to you than the best available image quality, Performance is the mode to try first. If preserving visual detail is your priority, compare it with Quality on your own display. Because the report does not provide exact resolution or a full-game performance analysis, it cannot settle which option is best for every player.
Why the change is notable
Launch-era coverage described Series S as running at 30FPS without an alternate mode. In May 2026, Pure Xbox summarized Digital Foundry’s technical coverage as saying that the console’s memory and GPU limits led IO Interactive to retain visual systems such as lighting and volumetrics rather than remove them to pursue 60FPS. That explanation describes the earlier setup; it does not explain how the newly reported Performance mode was achieved.

Pure Xbox says the new option followed a recent update. It also reports that the previous week’s free DLC patch notes referred to an Xbox Series X update and were worded incorrectly, which may help explain why the Series S change was not noticed at first. The report does not give a patch number or an official developer explanation.
What is and is not confirmed
- Reported: Series S has a Performance option in addition to Quality mode, according to Pure Xbox.
- Observed by Pure Xbox: Performance appears to reduce graphical settings and run around 50–60FPS in most of the outlet’s footage.
- Not established in the report: the exact resolution, which graphics settings changed, the patch identifier, performance across the full game, or the developer’s rationale for the change.

IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as a third-person action-adventure combining stealth and action, with a standalone reimagined origin story for James Bond. The studio lists Xbox Series X|S among its platforms and gives May 27, 2026 as the release date.
