On 6 October 2026, Bitcoin Group SE said BaFin had refused its subsidiary futurum bank AG’s application for authorization under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). The company says it is pursuing a regulated-partner arrangement to restart trading, but has not announced partners or a relaunch date.
What can Bitcoin.de customers do right now?
Bitcoin.de’s official status page lists deposits and trading as paused until further notice and says withdrawals continue. Its status summary is dated 21 August 2026, so it describes the platform’s stated position at that time; the page itself is the place to check for any newer status.
The pause does not necessarily mean the website is inaccessible. It means the platform’s listed trading and deposit services are not operating. Bitcoin Group SE said the operational trading business had been largely dormant since 12 June 2026.
Why is Bitcoin.de trading paused?
Bitcoin Group SE said BaFin refused futurum bank AG’s application for authorization as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCAR. The company said the application had been submitted on 27 June 2025 and that the authorization process had lasted more than 15 months. The announcement was distributed on 6 October 2026 through Deutsche Börse EQS.

The announcement reports the company’s account of BaFin’s decision; the refusal notice and its detailed reasoning were not included there. Bitcoin Group SE said it had received advance information about the refusal and was still expecting formal delivery. No specific reason for the refusal should therefore be inferred from the company’s announcement.
How does Bitcoin Group SE say it will resume trading?
The company says it is preparing a model using regulated partners based in Germany. Under the proposed arrangement, one regulated institution would initially act as customers’ trading counterparty, while a separate regulated German party would provide custody. The announcement does not name either party or confirm that agreements have been completed.

Bitcoin Group SE described the objective as “to establish an operating model for trading crypto assets on Bitcoin.de with regulated partners based in Germany” so customers can resume trading through the technologically renewed app. This is the company’s stated plan, not confirmation that trading is about to restart.
What does the company say about customer assets?
Bitcoin Group SE says futurum bank AG will continue holding customer assets until they can be transferred to the alternative custodian, and that customers’ claims remain unrestricted. These are statements by the issuer, not an independent audit or confirmation of individual account balances. Bitcoin.de’s status page separately says withdrawals remain available.

Are the expanded Bitcoin.de features live?
No. A 29 September 2026 half-year report announcement described a planned offering of more than 100 cryptocurrencies, with features including savings plans, swaps and staking. It made the trading restart subject to the authorization process. Those items were proposed features, not evidence that they are currently available; the 6 October announcement describes a changed route involving regulated partners.

Bitcoin Group SE has not given a restart date. Its announcement says it is reviewing the refusal and may object within one month after notification, or apply again later. Because formal delivery was still expected when the company issued the announcement, the one-month period cannot be translated into a confirmed calendar deadline from the announcement date alone.

Key implementation details also remain unannounced: the identity and authorization of the trading counterparty and custodian, whether partner agreements are finalized, when any new arrangement takes effect, and whether customers will need to take action during a transition.
