Dell announced a knowledge graph, a semantic layer and topic-specific agents for its AI Data Platform on October 6, 2026. The graph and agent features are planned for the first half of 2027, not generally available yet. Dell also reported faster GPU-accelerated data processing in internal tests and outlined PowerScale security updates and rollout dates.
What Dell announced
The Dell AI Data Platform is the data foundation of Dell AI Factory. Its new context capabilities are designed to help AI agents find enterprise information, understand what it means and use it within defined access rules. Dell announced three connected features: a Unified Semantic Layer, an Enterprise Knowledge Graph and Knowledge Agents.
Unified Semantic Layer
The semantic layer is intended to apply consistent business meanings, definitions, rules and glossary terms to structured and unstructured information. Dell says it can reuse imported ontologies and classification taxonomies, and that NVIDIA’s open-source Auto-Ontology library will extend it.
Enterprise Knowledge Graph
The graph is intended to map relationships across enterprise data. Dell says it uses metadata, data lineage and query history to keep those connections tuned as activity changes. It can help agents find related tables, data products, multimodal information and vector indexes that they are permitted to access.

Knowledge Agents
These are topic-specific advisors grounded in a defined portion of the graph. Customers will be able to set each agent’s data permissions, guidance, quality threshold and spending limit. The semantic layer, graph and agents are all planned for the first half of 2027.
How the graph could help an AI agent
A conventional search may surface a sensor reading without explaining its significance or links to other records. Dell’s example is a manufacturer investigating a production-line problem: an agent could connect an anomalous sensor reading with the machine, its repair history, a supplier batch and orders that could be affected. That is Dell’s illustrative scenario, not a reported customer result or independently measured outcome.

The proposed distinction is that the agent would use business definitions and relationships in addition to retrieving data. The graph’s permission-aware discovery is meant to limit it to information the agent is allowed to access. How well this works in practice will depend on the data, governance rules and deployment; Dell’s announcement does not establish measured outcomes from customer deployments of the new features.
What Dell’s processing-speed figures mean
Dell says its Data Processing Engine will use NVIDIA cuDF on NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs. Apache Arrow will move data between Dell storage and processing so jobs can query data in place. In Dell’s internal September 2026 tests, GPU-accelerated Apache Spark runs averaged 3.9x the speed of CPU-only runs and reached a peak of 20.4x. Dell says the peak came from a batch data-mining workload.

The tests used a Dell PowerEdge R770 with the named GPUs and default configurations without performance tuning. These are vendor-reported results, not independently replicated benchmarks or guarantees for other workloads. Dell cautions that actual results may vary. Organizations evaluating the engine should test representative workloads and compare them with their existing pipelines.
PowerScale security and multitenancy
Dell announced PowerScale support for up to 500 tenants in a single cluster, along with mutual TLS (mTLS) over NFS to encrypt and authenticate file traffic and more granular role-based access controls. Dell positions these changes for shared AI platforms serving multiple teams or customers. The 500-tenant figure is Dell’s stated cluster capacity; the announcement does not establish that every deployment configuration will support that limit.

Availability and rollout schedule
On October 6, 2026, Dell described the Storage Performance Tool and AI-ready data services as available now. The tool tests S3-compatible object storage across training, inference and checkpointing workloads to help with infrastructure sizing and comparison. Other announced features have later target dates:

What enterprise teams should evaluate
Dell’s announcement describes its proposed capabilities and its own test results; it does not provide a head-to-head comparison with competing platforms. Before adopting the platform, teams can assess:

- Whether agents can retrieve relevant structured, unstructured and vector-indexed data while enforcing permissions.
- Where the platform will be deployed and how data governance requirements will be handled.
- Which storage and processing components are supported, and what services are required to move from setup to production.
- Performance on representative organizational workloads, rather than relying on Dell’s internal Spark results alone.
- Tenant isolation, role-based access and the rollout timing that applies to the required capabilities.
