OpenTelemetry’s Kubernetes attributes processor reached v1.0.0 on September 16, 2026. The release marks the processor stable, but it also brings a schema migration: Kubernetes label and annotation attributes now have stable names that differ from the legacy names. Operators should check their Collector version and update dashboards, queries, alerts, and pipeline rules that rely on the old keys.

OpenTelemetry says v1.0.0 meets its criteria for testing, benchmarking, documentation, and telemetry stability, and permits redistribution as a Go library or in binaries without API breakage. That is not a guarantee that every deployment or backend is automatically compatible: the announcement warns that the new semantic-convention names can break existing processor users.

What changed in the OpenTelemetry Kubernetes attributes processor v1.0.0?

The processor enriches telemetry with Kubernetes metadata. Its v1.0.0 milestone makes the component stable under OpenTelemetry’s criteria; the related schema work makes Kubernetes semantic conventions stable too. These are connected but distinct changes: component stability does not remove the need to migrate consumers from renamed attributes.

The chronology reflects that dependency. The Collector SIG’s “Stable by Default” effort prioritized important components, including this processor, but stabilizing a component also required stabilizing the semantic conventions and specifications it uses. The Kubernetes Semantic Conventions SIG began focused stability work in November 2025. The conventions reached release-candidate status in March 2026 and became stable in Semantic Conventions v1.42.0 in June 2026. The processor’s v1.0.0 promotion followed. OpenTelemetry’s September 16, 2026 announcement describes the milestone and its criteria.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

A stable naming contract reduces future churn, but it cannot make historical data, existing queries, or every vendor’s Collector distribution compatible by itself.

Are the k8sattributes processor attributes stable now?

The Kubernetes semantic conventions are stable in v1.42.0, and the processor is at v1.0.0. The practical change is that label and annotation attributes use singular namespaces in the stable form. The official Kubernetes attributes migration guide gives these legacy-to-stable mappings:

  • processor.k8sattributes.EmitV1K8sConventions enables stable semantic-convention attributes.
  • processor.k8sattributes.DontEmitV0K8sConventions disables legacy semantic-convention attributes.

The upstream k8sattributes processor README currently says both gates are enabled by default and remain beta during the v1.x period, allowing users to switch back to the old unstable schema. Because that README tracks the live main branch, confirm the gate names and defaults for the exact Collector version and distribution you operate rather than assuming all vendor builds or older releases behave the same way.

Do not confuse these processor gates with the general Kubernetes instrumentation opt-in described in the migration guide. That guide uses k8s for stable conventions only and k8s/dup for both stable and legacy forms; with no opt-in, an instrumentation continues its previous conventions. It also recommends maintaining existing major instrumentation versions for at least six months after starting dual emission. That guidance is for existing Kubernetes instrumentations, not a processor-specific guarantee. The guide says the processor uses its own feature gates rather than the general OTEL_SEMCONV_STABILITY_OPT_IN environment variable.

What should I check before upgrading?

Schema changes matter wherever one part of a telemetry pipeline assumes a particular data shape. OpenTelemetry’s Telemetry Schemas specification explains that sources and consumers can evolve at different rates, and that renaming an attribute can break a backend expecting the old name. Schema URLs can identify the schema version associated with telemetry, while versioned schema files describe changes.

  1. Confirm the deployed Collector build. Record its version and distribution, then check the corresponding processor documentation for supported gates and defaults.
  2. Find legacy-name dependencies. Search dashboards, saved queries, alert expressions, routing and sampling rules, processors, exporters, and ingestion mappings for plural label or annotation paths.
  3. Test the transition outside production. Apply the intended gate configuration and inspect emitted resource attributes to determine whether the pipeline produces legacy names, stable names, or both.
  4. Update consumers against the emitted shape. Change queries and rules to read the stable keys, or configure an intentional transition that preserves the legacy form where required.
  5. Roll out deliberately. Move production workloads only after the relevant consumers have been checked against the behavior of the installed Collector build.

This is a schema compatibility task, not merely a binary upgrade. Telemetry sources can use different schema versions at the same time, so account for mixed data during rollout if your queries span sources or deployments at different stages.
