What happened at ASOS?
ASOS said an unauthorized customer notification was sent at around 10 a.m. on 6 October 2026. It restricted access to the notification platforms and said it was working with internal and external specialists and relevant authorities. The company reported that its website and app were operating normally at the time. ASOS’s regulatory announcement describes the activity as involving third-party platforms it uses to communicate with customers.
The message, reported by The Record, was headed “ASOS HACKED” and claimed: “Dear Asos DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it”. It directed recipients to Telegram. That wording is an attacker’s allegation; it does not establish that a Snowflake environment or ASOS’s wider systems were compromised.
What customer information may be affected?
ASOS says basic personal information, including names and contact details, may have been accessed. It says it does not believe payment-card information or account passwords were impacted. These are provisional statements while the investigation continues, not confirmation of what information attackers obtained.

ASOS’s customer notice says recipients of the alert may have been affected. The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) advises ASOS customers to assume they are affected even if they did not receive the notification. That is precautionary guidance, not proof that every customer’s information was accessed. No incident-specific figure has been provided for how many people received the alert or whose information may have been accessed.
What should ASOS customers do?
- Ignore the notification’s external link. ASOS says to disregard the unauthorized notification and not click or engage with the third-party link it contained. Do not contact the sender through Telegram.
- Watch for follow-up messages. The NCSC incident guidance advises customers to be alert for suspicious messages by email or text and to avoid links that seem suspicious.
- Review your account activity. If you see activity you do not recognize, seek help through official ASOS Customer Care channels rather than responding to an unsolicited message.
- Consider general account-security steps. The NCSC recommends passkeys, or strong, unique passwords together with two-step verification. This is general security advice and does not confirm that ASOS supports every authentication method.
ASOS says it is not currently asking customers to change their ASOS password or take another action. The NCSC’s broader precaution to review account security is separate; ASOS has not ordered a password reset.

What is still unknown?
ASOS’s investigation had not established whether data was taken out of its systems, whether attackers accessed a Snowflake environment, or how many customers received the notification or had details accessed. Until the company provides more information, the notification’s claim should be treated as unverified rather than proof of a wider breach.
