What was reported about The Witcher 3 and Game Pass?
Logan Moore’s August 18, 2026, report for ComicBook.com identified The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, originally released in 2015, as a high-profile game scheduled to leave Game Pass on August 31, 2026. The report also said Xbox and CD Projekt Red had not confirmed a return to the service at that time. Does Game Pass no longer need The Witcher 3?
That conclusion does not follow from a reported removal date. The report names a notable RPG leaving the catalog, but offers no catalog-wide evidence that Game Pass has replaced its appeal or that subscribers no longer value it. Whether the service “needs” any particular game is a judgment about the breadth and value of its overall lineup, not something established by this single departure.

Because the reported removal date has passed, check the Game Pass catalog in your region or the game’s current Xbox listing before making a decision. The available reporting does not confirm whether the title is presently included, nor does it establish current prices or edition availability.

Compare buying the game with moving on
If you want to continue playing and it is no longer available to you through Game Pass, buying a standalone edition may be an option. Compare the current price and included content of the edition for your platform with how much more you expect to play and the value you get from your subscription. No current offer or price is established by the cited report. If the cost is not worthwhile, choosing another game in the catalog is the straightforward alternative.
What did the report say about future support?
The August 2026 article said CD Projekt Red was still supporting the game and described Songs of the Past as an announced expansion planned for 2027. That is what the report said at publication, not independent confirmation of the expansion’s current release plans or availability. The report connected the timing to that announcement, but did not show that the expansion caused the Game Pass departure.
