The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM pairs strong independent gaming results with a reported US launch price of $1,799.99. That makes it a fast, feature-rich Windows handheld—but a difficult value to recommend without checking its current local price and weighing performance against battery life, size, and the Windows handheld experience.
Which MSI Claw 8 is this?
This review concerns the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ CG3EM, the model built around Intel Arc G3 Extreme. It is distinct from the earlier MSI Claw 8 AI+. The two names are similar, but the benchmark results below are for the CG3EM and should not be applied to the previous model.
MSI lists Windows 11 Home and an 8-inch, 1920 × 1200 touchscreen with 120 Hz refresh, variable refresh rate (VRR), typical 100% sRGB coverage, and typical 500-nit brightness. The feature list also includes an 80 Wh battery, Hall-effect sticks and triggers, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a microSD slot, MSI Center M with Xbox Mode, and MSI AI Engine. MSI notes that configurations can vary by model and country, so check the exact regional SKU before buying. MSI’s CG3EM specifications.
MSI’s 2026 Computex announcement also highlights XeSS 3 and Multi-Frame Generation. Those are manufacturer-highlighted platform features, not independent proof of a particular frame rate or image quality in every game. MSI’s Computex 2026 announcement.

- Heat Dissipation Reserved & Daily Portable: Rear hollow cooling holes align with the original ventilation area to guarantee smooth airflow and prevent overheating. Slim lightweight design fits easily into backpacks and travel bags, ideal for home use, business trips and outdoor gaming
How fast is it in games?
Independent reviews found the CG3EM capable of strong results, but the numbers depend on the game, settings, resolution, power mode, and whether upscaling is enabled. They are review benchmarks—not a promise of the frame rate every owner will see.
PC Gamer’s Cyberpunk 2077 results
In PC Gamer’s comparison, the Claw averaged 51 fps with 33 fps 1% lows in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Medium. With upscaling enabled at the same resolution and settings, it averaged 73 fps with 50 fps 1% lows. The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X scored 41 average fps and 34 fps 1% lows in the standard test, and 53 average fps and 44 fps 1% lows in the upscaling test. The upscaled result is not native rendering performance; upscaling changes the image-rendering process and can affect visual quality. PC Gamer’s CG3EM review and benchmark tables.

TechRadar’s separate results
TechRadar reported 6,534 in 3DMark Time Spy, 43 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra and 75 fps at 1080p Low, plus 48.3 fps in Dirt 5 at 1200p Ultra and 95.7 fps at 1200p Low. These are TechRadar’s test results, not directly comparable to PC Gamer’s figures as though both outlets used the same setup. TechRadar’s review.
PC Gamer also found the Claw ahead of the Ally X in its F1 24 and Metro Exodus Enhanced comparisons, although the gap varied by title and settings. The practical takeaway is that the CG3EM can deliver high performance in tested games, not that it wins every game or makes every demanding title run smoothly at maximum settings.

How long does the battery last?
There is no single runtime figure that describes every game and power mode. Published results differ by test and configuration:
| Source and test | Reported result | Context |
|---|---|---|
| PC Gamer, PCMark 10 gaming test | 153 minutes | Default mode |
| PC Gamer, PCMark 10 gaming test | 308 minutes | Endurance Mode |
| TechRadar, PCMark 10 gaming battery test | 1 hour 40 minutes | TechRadar’s test configuration |
Engadget reviewer Sam Rutherford reported more than three hours of play in one Endurance Mode test, using Clair Obscur on medium settings; he noted that less demanding older games could run longer. That is an observation from that particular game and mode, not a general runtime guarantee. Differences among reviews may reflect settings, firmware, test procedure, or review configuration. Is the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ worth it?
At its reported launch pricing, the central tradeoff is straightforward: the CG3EM has impressive benchmark performance, but it costs far more than a casual impulse buy. TechRadar reported launch-era prices of $1,799.99 in the US, £1,399.99 in the UK, and AU$2,849 in Australia, with a launch date of June 23, 2026. These are historical review-time figures, not verified current offers; check local pricing and availability before making a decision. TechRadar’s review.
Engadget’s review earned the device 8.2/10, while reviewer Sam Rutherford captured the price concern: “$1,800 for a handheld gaming PC is a ton of money, even if it comes with massive gains in horsepower.” Engadget’s review.

Before choosing it, compare the CG3EM with alternatives such as the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X, the earlier MSI Claw 8 AI+, and the Lenovo Legion Go S. Use matched game settings where possible, and factor in more than peak frame rates:
- Price: Compare the actual price in your region, not a dated launch figure.
- Your games: Look for results in the titles you play and distinguish native rendering from upscaling or frame generation.
- Time away from a charger: Battery results vary substantially with mode and workload.
- Size and comfort: A larger handheld may suit some players and feel unwieldy to others.
- Screen and controls: Decide whether the 8-inch 120 Hz VRR display and Hall-effect controls matter to you.
- Software experience: Windows flexibility and MSI Center M with Xbox Mode are part of the experience; benchmark tables cannot tell you whether you will prefer its interface.
What comes in the package?
MSI’s product page names the MSI Claw Travel Case III and an 8-inch tempered-glass screen protector among launch-pack contents. That listing does not establish that either accessory is included with every regional SKU, sold separately, or currently available everywhere.
