The October 6, 2026 episode of 9to5Mac Daily covers four Apple stories: Beaumont ISD’s reported move from Chromebooks to Apple devices, upcoming Apple Cash term changes, a report of another late-October product-announcement wave, and reporting that CEO John Ternus is taking a hands-on role with Apple’s design teams.
What is in the October 6 episode?
The episode brings together a local school-district procurement decision, a change Apple Cash users should prepare for, a product-announcement rumor, and reporting about Apple’s internal design leadership. The claims about Beaumont ISD come from coverage attributed to the Beaumont Enterprise; the design and product-calendar details are attributed to Bloomberg and MacRumors reporting, respectively.
Why is Beaumont ISD replacing Chromebooks with Apple devices?
9to5Mac reported on October 2, 2026, that the Beaumont Independent School District board approved an $11.19 million, four-year lease for 14,585 Apple devices. The report says the district was replacing an aging Chromebook fleet after spending nearly half a million dollars on Chromebook repairs and support.
| Reported allocation | Quantity | Intended users |
|---|---|---|
| iPads | More than 4,000 | Students from pre-K through second grade |
| MacBook Neo laptops | 9,500 | Students in grades 3–12 |
| MacBook Neo laptops | 1,000 | Teachers |
The reported allocations add up to more than 14,500 devices, while the overall lease covers 14,585; the article does not explain the difference. Beaumont reportedly evaluated Lenovo and Asus devices and said the MacBook Neo offered the strongest performance and reliability among the devices it considered. Apple financing and AppleCare also factored into the district’s decision. Those are the district’s stated procurement considerations, not the results of an independent benchmark or a general recommendation for other schools.

What are the two reported Apple Cash changes?
Identity verification to reload a balance
In an October 5, 2026 report, 9to5Mac reproduced an Apple notice saying Green Dot Bank will require users to verify their identity to reload an Apple Cash balance starting November 9, 2026. The notice states: “Starting on November 9, Green Dot Bank will begin requiring users to verify their identity in order to reload their Apple Cash balance.” The report says users can verify from their device at Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Cash. Check Apple’s current Apple Cash terms and support information for the latest instructions before taking action.
A possible external-funding feature
The updated terms also describe a possible feature called “Externally-Initiated Funding Transactions.” If Green Dot enables it, transfers could be made directly from a bank or merchant to an Apple Cash Card, subject to limits. The terms, as described in the report, give no start date, so this should not be read as a feature that is already available. The report also notes an arbitration-terms change but does not detail it; users who need to understand that change should review the updated terms themselves.

Is Apple planning another product-announcement wave in October?
A 9to5Mac article dated October 5 relayed MacRumors reporting, attributed to multiple sources familiar with the matter, that Apple would announce another group of products in the final week of October. That account did not identify the products, specify a date, or say whether Apple would use an event, videos, or press releases. It is a report about a possible schedule, not an Apple-confirmed announcement.
The same article recapped earlier expectations, including an anticipated October 13 event and speculation about Macs and an OLED iPad mini. Those, too, were reported expectations at the time—not confirmed details of the later announcement wave.

What role is John Ternus reportedly taking in Apple’s design teams?
A 9to5Mac story dated October 4 relayed Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s account that Ternus has become closely involved with Apple’s industrial design and human interface teams. Gurman’s report, citing people familiar with the department, said Ternus works hands-on in the studio several times a week and may visit more than once in a day. The story places this involvement around his transition to CEO.
The account identifies Molly Anderson and Steve Lemay as the respective design leads and describes Ternus as the overarching decision-maker. These are reported details about Apple’s internal organization, not a formal announcement from Apple.
