Not by booting the PlayStation 5 operating system. The project called prosper is an experimental compatibility layer that attempts to run selected PS5 game binaries on Linux or Windows PCs. Its maintainers describe title-specific milestones, not a general way to play a PS5 library on a regular PC.
What “Prospero OS on PC” actually means
Prospero is the PS5’s operating-system platform name; the project is called prosper. Its official description does not claim to launch the complete PS5 operating system on PC. Instead, prosper targets selected game modules and supplies implementations of console services using facilities available on the host computer. See the prosper project README.
That distinction matters: booting a console OS would mean reproducing a broader system environment, while prosper’s documented aim is to get particular game binaries running through a compatibility layer. Its maintainers describe the work as experimental AI-assisted reverse engineering, with humans directing and reviewing the results.
How prosper runs PS5 game code
The PS5 and a compatible PC share the x86-64 CPU architecture. According to the README, that lets guest game code run natively rather than requiring CPU instruction emulation. The harder work is recreating the console environment the game expects.

- Loads game modules: prosper loads Sony SELF/ELF modules into a shared address space.
- Reimplements system libraries: It maps PS5 library behavior onto host facilities and handles differences in the application binary interface.
- Translates graphics work: It translates AGC GPU command streams to Vulkan and includes an RDNA2-to-SPIR-V shader recompiler.
Those pieces make “compatibility layer” a more accurate description than either a conventional whole-system emulator or a port of the complete PS5 operating system. The project says it does not include game files, keys, or Sony code; users provide their own legally obtained dump, and prosper works with module segments that are already unencrypted. The README also says the project is independent of and unaffiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
How many games work?
The maintainers’ compatibility overview, dated October 1, 2026, tracks 61 titles and describes results for specific user-supplied dumps, tested primarily on Linux. The figures are milestones, not a guarantee that a game is complete or reliably playable.

These are maintainers’ counts from the compatibility overview, not an independent test of every title or a measure of how many games are fully playable. Different revisions of the same game can behave differently. To assess a particular game, consult its entry and documented route in the compatibility overview; do not infer support for a title from the aggregate totals.

The archive does not supply PS5 software, firmware, keys, or a game picker. Meeting the host requirements does not make every title compatible; results remain experimental and specific to the game and documented route.

prosper is not presented as a supported consumer product. Its README says there is no support or release schedule, and states: “This is not a product. There is no support, no release schedule, and no claim that any title works beyond the specific route documented for it.” The same README says no license file exists yet and that no license is granted by default. Those are project statements, not promises of future availability or support.
